Summer Saison Time. Last Sunday, I brewed SheppyBrew's Hail Storm Summer Saison.
Apparently, I've been doing this Seasonal Saison thing for more than 6 years, because this is the 6th time I've brewed the Hail Storm Summer Saison.
Has it really been that long? I must really like saisons. I must really like the WY3711 yeast.
Yes. Yes I do.
I don't know if you've noticed, but my last few batches of beer, I've made extra. This batch was similar in that I made an 8 gallon batch rather than my regular 5.
This allows me to keep a "Frankenbrew" keg. The "Frankenbrew" keg is a blend of the past few batches. I am sure at some point the mixture will end up sort of weird, but so far, I've liked the result.
This Summer Saison will be a good addition. Plus, I am really looking forward to having a keg of Hail Storm to drink in late July and August.
Anyway ... I got started early morning on Sunday. Not as ridiculously early as I often brew. The sun was actually up for most of the mash.
And, after I got the wort into the kettle, I interrupted the brew day to go to church.
And then started up the boil after we got back home.
The brew day was fairly uneventful. I got enough into the fermentors to yield about 8 gallons, which was what I was shooting for.
My OG was 1.048, which is close enough to the 1.049 gravity that I planned.
Fermentation was going strong the next morning. I expect that I'll keg in about a week and half if I have an empty keg.
As always, you can always keep an eye on the regular SheppyBrew Channels to see what is happening with beer and other things: SheppyBrew's Facebook Page; Sheppy's Twitter Feed;SheppyBrew's Instagram Page; and SheppyBrew's Website. Of course, don't forget to visit this blog often as well!
Go Rockies...
