SheppyBrew 2022 Year End Brewing Stats

So ... as I'm typing this, we still have over a week left in 2022, but I won't be brewing again this year, so I can actually report on my 2022 Brewing Stats.

I did brew quite a bit of beer in 2022, but I am on a steep downward trend after an absolute ridiculous amount of brewing in 2020 and considerably less, but still a huge amount in 2021.

I brewed over 160 gallons in 2020, and over 140 in 2021.

In 2022, I only brewed 122 gallons of beer. Even with this downward trend, 2022 was my 3rd highest brewing volume ever. I blame covid.

This 4th Quarter, I only brewed 5 times for 26 gallons. Practically a reasonable amount.

Mr. Awesome (and Jethro Bud)

Depending on how you count, this puts my total batches at either 21, 22, or 23. We'll "officially" go with 22 batches for the year.

And as usual, I'll mention that my wife (aka the SheppyBrew Beer Model) helped me brew several beers over the course of the year, making my over-100-gallons a legal amount.

Will-o-Wisp Autumn Ale (no pumpkin)

Of the 5 batches of beer this quarter, 4 of them (Will-o-WispWien ZerschlagenDudocs Red, and X-Mas Ale 2022) were new recipes. This puts means I brewed 11 new recipes in 2022. This is more than 2021 (7 new recipes) but much less than 2020 (18 new recipes).

Two of the beers were lagers (Mr. Awesome and Wien Zerschlagen). I brewed 7 lagers in 2022. (10 in 2021 and 7 in 2022).

All of my recipes were all-grain this year. I did two double batches over the year.

Most of the beers I brewed were in the Anvil Foundry, but Dudocs Red was actually done with my old gott-cooler mash tun. That was my third batch this year with the old-style mashing. Although it was brewed at my friend Doc's home-brewery, so it certainly was not "traditional".

That's about all I have to report for 2022.

In 2023, I'll probably continue the downward trend, but I suppose we'll see how it goes.

As I mentioned in Followup on BJCP 2021 Style Guidelines, there are a few new beer styles I want to make sure I brew.

I'm also thinking about brewing some of old Blackhawk-themed beers. The Hawks have really been bad over the past few years and need my help.
