SheppyBrew 2020 Year-End Brewing Stats

2020. What a year.

One side effect of staying at home so much in 2020 was that I brewed a lot of beer.

A ridiculous amount, really.

As I type this, the year is not over, but I am done brewing for the year.

And, as you may know, the Brewery likes to post quarterly updates on how much we have brewed. You can see all these updates (including the one you are reading right now) by following this link: Sheppy's Blog: Brew Stats.

In the 4th quarter of the year, I brewed 8 batches of beer:

SheppyBrew brewed 31 batches of beer in 2020.

Falling Leaves Autumn Saison

These 8 batches of beer totaled 42 gallons of beer, bringing the 2020 volume total to 161 gallons. This is BY FAR the most beer I've ever brewed in a year. For perspective, my 2019 total was 110 (and that was my highest total until this year).

And, for legal reasons, this is the point of the blog post where I mention that the SheppyBrew Beer Model helped me brew more than she has in past years.

Lithuanian Autumn Ale

Of the 8 4th quarter batches, 6 were new recipes (Lithuanian Autumn AleBud Light Lime2020 X-Mas AleIrregular Eric Double IPAPuppy Monkey BabyDecemberfest Lager). 2020 had 18 new recipes compared to 14 new recipes in 2019. Last year, I speculated that 14 new recipes was the most I'd ever done. So, I'm assuming that 18 is now the most new recipes I've brewed in a year.

I'm actually thinking I'll concentrate on brewing more of the older SheppyBrew recipes in 2021, and expect to have a whole lot less new recipes next year.

Bud Light Lime

I brewed 3 lagers (Bud Light LimeSchreck Gartenzwerg PilsnerDecemberfest Lager) in the 4th quarter, bringing my 2020 total lagers to 7.

7 lagers is a lot for me. I do think I want to work a little on my Mexican lagers 2021, so I think I might end up with more next year, but we'll see how that goes.

2020 X-Mas Ale

All my recipes were all-grain this quarter. I did brew one extract beer in 2020.

I'm not expecting to brew any extract beers in 2021, but we'll see.

Irregular Eric Double IPA

Irregular Eric Double IPA was the 5th beer in my Homebrew Colorado 6 pack.  I started this in 2020. I'll finish it up in 2021.

Puppy Monkey Baby

Last year, I mentioned that I was going to start using gelatin to clarify my beers more in 2020. Until going back and reading that blog post, I had forgotten this, but I have actually been using gelatin a lot more in 2020.

I do think I've had clearer beer as a result.

Schreck Gartenzwerg Pilsner

I did add a new brewing toy this quarter. I have brewed my last 6 batches of the year (Bud Light Lime2020 X-Mas AleIrregular Eric Double IPAPuppy Monkey BabySchreck Gartenzwerg Pilsner,  Decemberfest Lager) on my Anvil Foundry.

There are things I REALLY like about the  Anvil Foundry. There are a few things I miss about my older system.

I'm going to keep my old stuff. I expect I'll use it from time to time.

Decemberfest Lager

I can't think of anything else to say about brewing in 2020. I can't imagine that I'll brew anywhere close to the same volume in 2021. I guess we'll all see what 2021 brings.
