Well ... Hell. The summer is almost over. How did this happen so quickly?
Blah.
Last time I was at my local liquor store, I didn't see any of Ska's Mexican Logger. That probably means the Mexican Logger season is about over.
Luckily, I had a can of it in my beer fridge to compare with my Sin Lima Mexican Lager (batch 293).
Remember in Updating the Homebrew Colorado 6 pack that I thought Sin Lima Mexican Lager would be a good beer to compare with Ska's Mexican Logger.
Because of the timing around when Ska's Mexican Logger was available and my brewing schedule, I ended up comparing T.Ra.Sh. Light Mexican Lager vs Ska Mexican Logger first.
T.Ra.Sh. Light Mexican Lager compared pretty closely to Ska's Mexican Logger, but I thought I should still do a side-by-side with Sin Lima Mexican Lager as well.
Sin Lima Mexican Lager is a shade lighter in color than Ska's Mexican Logger. The clarity is pretty close, but Ska's is probably just a tad more clear.
Sin Lima has a bit more hop flavor. It has a bit more body, and much better head formation and retention.
The Mexican Logger has a touch more sulfur.
The two beers are pretty close, but I think after doing the comparison, T.Ra.Sh. Light Mexican Lager is probably a closer (at least from my memory of these batches)
Of the three beers, Sin Lima Mexican Lager is my favorite.
The beer model also compared. She agreed that Sin Lima was a lighter color. She was able to identify the Mexican Logger (or at least guess which was which).
She thought Ska's beer had more mouth feel and body, which is contrary to my observation. I think maybe she perceived the extra hop flavor as a proxy for a drier beer. Who knows?
Anyway ... as far as the Colorado Six Pack Project ... I believe that T.Ra.Sh. Light Mexican Lager is actually a closer match. So, for now, that is what matches up in the Six Pack.
Now ... it is time to brew a beer to match Dale's Pale Ale and a beer to match Copper Kettle's Mexican Chocolate Stout.
Keep an eye on Sheppy's Blog: 6 Pack Project, and you'll see what I come up with.
Go Bears!
