Learn to Homebrew Day: Dudocs English Mild (301)

This past Saturday was the AHA's Learn to Homebrew Day.

This year, my friend "Doc" decided he wanted to host a brew day, so I packed up my equipment and traveled to his brewery.

The recipe that I designed for this brew day, was Dudocs English Mild.

It is a pretty simple English Mild recipe fermented with Lallemand Voss Kveik Ale Yeast.

It should be an easy drinking flavorful dark, malty session beer. I'm looking forward to trying it out.

As usual, I started the mash at home and let the amylase enzyme do their thing while I was driving.

This way, when I got to Doc's I just had to drain the wort into the kettle and start heating to boil.

This is the first time I brought my Anvil Foundry along with me on a Travel Brew Day, but I only used it to boil in this case.

I arrived around 1PM. Doc had invited quite a few people. We had 4 batches going and several people came to watch / help.

So, after a tour of beers on tap, I started draining the wort into my kettle.

The other batches started out at various times after I got started.

My pre-boil gravity was a bit high, so I diluted just a bit. The boil was only half an hour so I could get done brewing early.

The other batches were extract batches, so they were only a little behind me with my head-start.

We had burgers and hotdogs and various snacks. We tried all of Doc's homebrew. We also tried various other beers that the rest of us brought.

Everyone really liked my Rocktoberfest Lager and Will-o'-Wisp Pumpkin Ale.

Everyone seemed to have a great time. I know I did.

I was home in time for dinner.

I did most of my clean up on Sunday.

Fermentation was going strong, and seemed to be mostly done before Tuesday.

I'm looking forward to trying this beer in a couple of weeks.
