This is already my 15th of batch of beer this year, and my 340th batch all-time.
I'm getting to a point where I might have to stop claiming that my 2023 brewing totals will be down from 2022.
I'm not quite there, yet, though. I still think my 2023 totals will be less than last year.
Sunday's batch was a new recipe and new style for me.
If you follow this blog at all, you can probably guess what I brewed after reading Roll-a-Style 10 ... Kellerbier.
Tryna get girls from a brand? Man, you hella won'tMan, you hella won't
I prepared the water and set the Foundry's timer to start heating water the night before. I got up early and added the grain and started the pump right away.
I actually went back to bed for about half an hour before deciding that I was not going to get any more sleep.
Much like I did for Gypsy Magic Bière de Garde (Batch 339), I collected wort from the mash to do a vitality starter this time.
Because the Guidelines for Kellerbier specifically mention "unfiltered", I decided to leave our clarifying ingredients. No whirlflock and no gelatin.
I also allowed myself a shorter boil, making this short of a "Short and Shoddy" brew.
On prime day, I picked up a "hop spider". While this wasn't a very hoppy beer, I decided to try it out in this batch.
So that I could finish in time to get to church, I started my boil timer a bit early. Somehow I was still able to hit my designed OG.
After the boil, I chilled the wort to 55ish degrees, and racked to my pressure fermenter.
I got the yeast pitched and cleanup started in time to get to church.
The beer has been fermenting ever since.
I'm looking forward to drinking this beer.
