I don't make a lot of IPA's, but the other day I started thinking I really should get one brewed.
Quite awhile ago I brewed an IPA that I really enjoyed, named Near-Sighted Swine IPA. Rather than come up with a new recipe, I decided to use this one.
I did update the hops a little. But, it is essentially the same recipe as it was back then.
Last Sunday (not this past Sunday ... the one before), I brewed the beer.
I started the brew day somewhat late for me ... after the sun was up ... around 6AM or so.
The skies looked like rain, but I started on the back patio.
About the time that the mash was done, I felt a bit of rain hit me from the skies and I made the decision to move the garage.

Brew Day for Near-Sighted Swine
So, if you read this blog or follow me on untappd or follow me on twitter or like SheppyBrew's facebook page, you probably know that I like IPA's.
I don't, however, make a lot of IPA's. Really, it is because I like so many beer styles that I don't get around to it very often.
On #IPA Day, I mentioned that I would be brewing an IPA (see #IPADay Announcement: Near-Sighted-Swine).
My 2012 Zymurgy List included Russian River's Blind Pig IPA, which I figured I would not ever be able to get. Russian River beers are extremely over-hyped .... errrr ... popular and it is very hard to pick any of them up here in Denver. Fortuitously, a local pizza place / craft beer bar had some the very day we ate there (see Blind Pig at Parry's Pizza). That year, there was a Blind Pig clone recipe in Zymurgy. Before finding the beer at Parry's I thought maybe I would make the clone and count that as my taste of the beer.

Brew Day: Schnockered to Comfortably Numb
Back at the beginning of November (see Fall Back ... Brew a Morlock Porter), I brewed my Category 12 Porter. This meant that I only had one more BJCP Category left to brew in my quest to have brewed at least one batch in all 23 BJCP Categories (see SheppyBrew Styles).
Since then, I've brewed a couple of old favorites, leaving the last category for the very end of the year. Monday, I took the day off work to brew a Category 19 Strong Ale. (Actually, I took the day off because my employer has a use-it-or-lose-it policy on vacation days. The brew-day was just a bonus)

San Diego Super Yeast
Soon, I am brewing SheppyBrew's world-famous Quarter Life Crisis Hoppy Red Ale. My birthday is coming up, and my life will be almost 27% over. Obviously, this is a great time for a Quarter Life Crisis. I can't, after-all do a mid-life crisis yet.
If you've been following this blog long enough (or just followed the link above), you may remember that this beer came about after I received Jamil Zainasheff's and John Palmer's book Brewing Classic Styles as a gift on my 40th birthday. It is a hoppy "West Coast" Red ... or at least that is what I call the style. Basically, it is hopped like an IPA, but is darker in color and more complex in the malt bill.
