Summer Lovin' American Wheat (Batch 357)

I don't know about where you live, but here it is starting to feel quite a bit like summer. I've had to fire up the air conditioning a few times already.

Although I drink just about any beer style at any time of year, there are a few beers that I would consider summer beers.

One of these beers is my "June Seasonal": Summer Lovin' American Wheat.

It honestly doesn't have to be consumed in summer, but it certainly doesn't suck in beautiful warm weather.

This is one of the SheppyBrew Beer Model's favorite beers, and therefore, it is one of my most brewed beers.

I like it too, but she really really really likes it. I think that when we brewed Alex's GPT, what she really wanted was

And now that Alex's GPT is gone, I brewed Summer Lovin' American Wheat this past Sunday.

This is the 8th time I've brewed this beer. I'm sure I'll brew it again many times in the future.

I didn't start particularly early. I think I got mashed in around 6:15 or so.

I went a little longer than planned on the mash, getting me to 8am when we left for church. I set the Foundry to get the wort to 195ish while we were in church.

After getting back, I brought the wort the rest of the way up to boiling.

The pre-boil gravity was a bit low, but the volume was high. I decided to just go with it.

The boil went well. I had chilled and was racking to the fermenter by 11am. The yeast was pitched soon after.

I got a bike ride in and in the afternoon, I grilled spare rib "scraps" after I got back from the ride.

When I make spare ribs, when I trimmed them to be "St. Louis Style", I vacuum sealed the "scraps" to make separately.

And Sunday was the day I did them.

Basically made them the same as I do spare ribs, but I didn't cook them as long.

I thought they turned out fantastic. Honestly, I was a little surprised how yummy they were.
