2019 Q3 SheppyBrew Stats

This year is really flying by. Here is it October and the 3rd Quarter is done.

As you may know, the Brewery likes to post quarterly updates on how much we have brewed. You can see all these updates (including the one you are reading right now) by following this link: Sheppy's Blog: Brew Stats.

As you may remember, I didn't brew very many times last quarter, although I did some bigger batches so my volume was still pretty high.

I brewed a whole lot more often in Q3. I brewed 6 batches which yielded a 34 gallons of beer.

Muggled Pale Ale (Batch 237)

So ... I was talking to my homebrew friend "Du" and both of us thought it had been too long since we've brewed.

We contacted our other homebrewing friend, "Doc" and made a brewing date for August 11th.

"Doc" was kind enough to host the brew day. You may remember "Doc" from such hits as

Cinco de Bealtaine Irish Stout

Learning to Homebrew

Mardi Bock

and ...

Big Brew Day 2019

It is now becoming "a thing" when I go to other houses (usually "Doc's") to brew. It is fun, but I always feel like I'm forgetting something I'll need. It is also a pain to clean up afterwards.

But ... anyhoo ....

Cryo Muggled

Last week, I decided that I wanted to brew over the weekend.

I feel like it has been a long time since I've brewed anything real hoppy.

I didn't really feel like coming up with a completely new recipe, so I looked through my previous recipes for APA's.

The recipe that jumped out at me was Muggled Pale Ale, and I decided that is what I would brew.

This would be my third time brewing this beer.

Muggled Pale Ale isn't a real complicated recipe.

The grain bill is simply 90% Standard 2-Row malt and 10% Dark Munich.

Then, it has a couple of hops. The first batch used Cascade and Chinook. The second batch moved to 100% Mosaic hops, and was my first time using that hop.

This time, I decided to try out LupuLN2 Cryo-hops.

2016 Q2 SheppyBrew Stats

As you may know, the Brewery likes to post quarterly updates on how much we have brewed. You can see all these updates (including the one you are reading right now) by following this link: http://blog.ericshepard.com/search/label/Brew%20Stats .

Q2 of 2016 at the SheppyBrew Brewery was fairly busy. I brewed 2 batches in April, 1 in May, and 3 in June.

Mosaic Muggled

Recently, I decided that I wanted to brew something hoppy. I didn't really want to come up with a new recipe, so I went through some of my older ones. I thought maybe Tommy Hawk APA or Chelsea Dagger Pre-Prohibition Lager would be good ideas.

Then, something made me think about Mosaic Hops.

I've never used Mosaic. To be honest, I don't think I've tasted a beer with Mosaic Hops. I'm not even sure what made me think about them.
Also known as HBC369, Mosaic is the first born child of Simcoe. Some have described it as Citra on steroids, but it’s much more than that. Rich in Mango, lemon, citrus, earthy pine, tropical fruit, herbal and stone fruit notes.
It does sound like a hop that I should at least try.

2015 Year-End SheppyBrew Stats

2015 has ended. Happy Brew Year!

SheppyBrew Brewery was busy last year. Since the Brewery likes to post quarterly updates on how much we have brewed, it is time for another Brew Stats post.

If you are interested, can see all these past updates (including the one you are reading right now ... and if any I do in the future) by following this link:  http://blog.ericshepard.com/search/label/Brew%20Stats .

I broke the 100 gallon mark for beer brewed in 2015. You may recall that last year, I only got to 90 gallons.

Muggled Pale Ale

I have really been neglecting this blog lately. Not sure exactly what my problem is except I just don't feel like getting on the computer much.

As a result, I am very late with a brew-day blog post.

2 weeks ago, I brewed

Muggled was basically designed around a couple of packets of Chinook hops that I picked up at the last GABF. Of course, the fact that I have been neglecting this blog means that I never shared that I got these hops ... but ... well ... you know ...

I just thought it would be nice to have a nice hoppy pale ale on tap, and having the Chinook hops worked in nicely with the recipe.

Muggled!

A couple weekends ago, I discovered that a couple of our geocaches had gone missing.

If you are wondering what a geocache is ... feel free to dig through this blog at Sheppy's Blog: Geocache. If you are still having trouble with the concept, check out Geocaching 101.

Anyway, I was checking up on my geocaches (as I do from time to time) in the Pence Park area. The first one I checked on was Sheppy McShepardSons (take II). It was not where it is supposed to be. To be honest, of all the geocaches that I've hidden, this is the one that I thought would be the least likely to go missing. I guess I was wrong. This did not make me happy.
