I won't go into details, but you can probably imagine reasons a phone on a Stand-up-Paddle-Board is not a good idea.
You might even think it odd that it took me as long as it did for me to realize something so obvious.
After some research ... I decided to purchase an Akaso Brave 7 LE Action Camera, which has a waterproof case.
In addition to being less expensive and more water proof than my phone, it is also something that allows the wife to be able to take photos as well.
You may have noticed (or maybe not) that most of our SUP trips have very few photos of me and tons of her.
This is mostly because she never feels comfortable with a phone out on the SUP.
In the past almost all photos of me were selfies. It is probably good that there are more of her as she is much better looking than I am.
Anyway ... last Saturday we decided to go out Paddle Boarding on Chatfield Lake again with the new Camera.
It was another hot day out on the lake, but surprisingly it didn't seem as busy as usual during such hot days.
We spent a couple hours out there floating, drinking beer, and eating lunch.
And taking photos.
A couple things I don't really like about the new Camera ...
It is tiny and lining up photos is more difficult because of how small the screen is.
The shutter sound isn't very loud and there were a few times I took a picture, not being 100% sure it took. The screen image snaps with the image for a moment, but since the screen is so small, that wasn't always obvious either.
The thing I wish I had done a little more research on ... the zoom function is "touch screen", but to be waterproof the phone is encased in a waterproof case. The touchscreen doesn't work on the case. So .. to zoom, I had to open the case and hit the touchscreen.
Not ideal.
The closer we were to the "subject" the better the photos turned out.
Either way, the day out on the lake was really fun.
We didn't see as many pelicans on this trip as last, and didn't get any good pictures of the ones we saw.
To be fair ... the Akaso Brave 7 LE Action Camera is more meant for videos ... so maybe this isn't the right solution for still photos. Perhaps I'll try to do "action" videos on the thing. Stay tuned and maybe I'll share.
