More SUP Photos

Well ... if you read this blog, you probably know that last weekend was my 2025 Triple Bypass Ride.

After the ride we spent the night in Avon. Then on Sunday, we drove back to the Denver area.

On the way home is Dillon Reservoir, and we thought it would be fun to do some paddling on the lake.

It is an absolutely gorgeous lake in amongst the mountains, and it was a beautiful sunny day.

It was a great day to be on the lake.

My photos never quite do justice to these spectacular views ... but still ...

... here are some pictures ...

4th of July Paddle on Chatfield

You may remember that my wife (aka the SheppyBrew Beer Model) and I went Paddle Boarding with Juneteenth Paddle on Chatfield.

I mentioned in that post that we'd have to look into a new better pump than the one my wife has been using.

Well ... since then she had a birthday and I got her a bigger, more expensive, hopefully better pump, and we figured we would have to try it out to make sure it actually was better.

The first opportunity we had was July 4th.

So we packed up our paddling stuff, some beer, a lunch and headed down to Chatfield Reservoir. It being a holiday weekend, we went earlier than usual, which really paid off.

Juneteenth Paddle on Chatfield

I'm pretty inexperienced at Paddle Boarding. My first "real" time doing it was last year Labor Day Weekend SUP, and I've only really done it once or twice after that so far.

But, it's a fun thing to do on hot summer-like days.

This past Thursday was Juneteenth, which my employer has as a holiday. It was hot, and the wife  (aka the SheppyBrew Beer Model) also had it off. We thought it would be fun to get some paddling in.

So we packed up our paddling stuff, some beer, a lunch and headed down to Chatfield Reservoir.

My wife had an electric pump, but it takes much longer than me with my manual pump. I even had to finish off pumping her paddle board. I think maybe we need to look into a better one.

Anyway ...

Labor Day Weekend SUP

My wife (aka the SheppyBrew Beer Model) and I spent the weekend up in the Breckenridge / Frisco / Dillon area over the Labor Day weekend.

One of the things we like to do when we're up there is spend some time on Dillon Reservoir on personal watercraft.

Generally, we bring one or two kayaks (depends on whether the kids are with us or not) and my wife's paddle board.

But, this year, our bigger vehicle was in the shop when we headed up there, and we decided to take a vehicle that does not have a roof rack.

This vehicle is not ideal for bringing a kayak, and we decided that we would pick up another inflatable SUP for this weekend.

July Chatfield Kayak / SUP Photos

After my Triple Bypass Ride the weekend before, last weekend I thought we should do something that my wife (aka the SheppyBrew Beer Model) wanted to do.

She picked Paddle Boarding / Kayaking (her Paddle Boarding, me Kayaking).

The most convenient place for us to do that by our house is Chatfield Reservoir State Park.

So ... last Saturday,  we packed up our personal watercraft and related equipment and headed over to the lake.

It was a real nice day ... warm, but not too hot, and although there were thunderstorms in the forecast, we never saw a cloud in the sky.

It was fun. Here are some pictures from the day on the lake:

August Chatfield Kayak / SUP Photos

Saturday morning, I got up early and rode my bike up to Evergreen and back down to my house.

I call this my Evergreen Loop.

It was only a 43 mile, 3 mile ride, but it was almost 3,700 feet of climbing.

When I returned from the bike ride, my wife (aka The SheppyBrew Beer Model) informed me that we would be going to Chatfield Reservoir to Kayak and Paddle Board.

The kids were not going. So, just me and the Beer Model.

It was a hot August day, which meant that lots of people were out at Chatfield Reservoir, but we were early enough that our normal spot to park wasn't very full at all.

Chatfield SUP Photos

This past weekend was Independence Day weekend, which also happens to be the Beer Model's Birthday Weekend.

On Saturday, we decided to pack up the kayaks and paddle board and head over to Chatfield Reservoir for a day of water activities and lunch brats on the portable grill.

We have 3 portal water crafts to share amongst 4 family members, so there is always someone sitting on the beach when we go.

I had the grill to manage and some beer to drink while I was sitting on the beach. This time, I also remembered to bring a bluetooth speaker to listen to music.

2022 Fathers' Day Camping at Turquois Lake Part 1

The past few Fathers' Days, I've posted photos of camping trips my wife and kids have taken me on.

I love camping, and my family knows this so Fathers' Days are pretty consistently times that I actually get to go camping.

Last year, in fact, the only camping trip I went on was Fathers' Day weekend. (see Fathers' Day 2021 in RMNP (Part 1) and Fathers' Day 2021 in RMNP (Part 2).

This past weekend was Fathers' Day 2022, and my family took me camping at Turquois Lake, which is just West of Leadville, Colorado.

It just happens to be the same place we went for Father's Day Weekend 2020Father's Day Weekend 2020.

It is a nice camping area and has the lake where we can Kayak and SUP, which is a lot of fun.

More Paddle Board Pics

As I mentioned in Paddle Board, I got my wife (aka the SheppyBrew Beer Model) a paddle board for her birthday.

This past weekend, she and I packed up her board,  one of our kayaks, some sandwiches, and some beers to head over to Chatfield Reservoir

We spent an hour or so on the water and then came back and had lunch.

After lunch, we packed up a few beers and headed back onto the water.

The weather was great ... sunny and in the mid-80. Not too terribly hot.

It also wasn't as crowded as Chatfield Reservoir is quite often on a summer Saturday mid-day.

Here are some pictures:

Paddle Board

If you've been following this blog for awhile ... you may know that the family has a couple of kayaks we use from time to time.

Good family fun.

My wife (aka the SheppyBrew Beer Model) has tried out paddle boarding a few times and seemed to enjoy it.

I thought that getting her a paddle board would be a something she would enjoy.

She had a birthday over the weekend, and this is the year I decided to buy her one.

Nothing too fancy. I decided to get an inflatable one that could be packed up so that transporting it would be fairly easy.

Over the weekend, we headed up to the Lake Dillon area to have her try out her new toy.

Father's Day Weekend 2020

Quite often, we go camping on Fathers' Day weekend.

I think that is because the father in the household really likes camping and gets sad that we don't do it as much as he would like.

This past weekend was Fathers' Day. And, we went camping.

This year, we went to a campground at Turquois Lake, which is just West of Leadville, Colorado.

It was very nice.

I took a couple days off work so we could make it a 4-day weekend and camp three nights.

Father's Day Weekend 2019 Part 1

Quite often, we go camping on Fathers' Day weekend.

I think that is because the father in the household really likes camping and gets sad that we don't do it as much as he would like.

This past weekend was Fathers' Day. And, we went camping.

This year, we went to Twin Lakes, Colorado to a campground very close to the "upper" of the Twin Lakes that the village is named after.

White Star Campground.

It was very nice.

I took a couple days off work so we could make it a 4-day weekend and camp three nights.

Weekend Camping and Kayaking Photos

This past weekend was Fathers' Day Weekend and my kids decided to go camping for the weekend.

With the help of their mother, they reserved us a campsite on Granby Lake. It was an awesome weekend. Perfect weather. Lots of fun activities. Great fun.

Here is the view from our campsite ...

Here is our tent and canopy in the photo to provide context.

Orlando Trip: Gators

If you follow the blog, you may recall that we spent "Spring Break" in Orlando Florida.

I've already posted that we went to Universal Studios Theme Parks (see Orlando Trip: Universal Studios) and Kennedy Space Center (see Orlando Trip: Kennedy Space Center).

Another thing we did was to seek out alligators.

We even found some. Oh boy did we.

Biking and Hiking and Geocaching and Canoeing

Busy day Friday.

We had decided to visit our friends in Breckenridge this weekend, and I took a PTO day.

Early in the morning, sometime before dawn, I grabbed some stuff, put my mountain bike on the back of the minivan, and headed up to Mt. Falcon Open Space Park.

There were a couple geocaches that I thought I would like to pick up. One is a multi-stage cache that I had begun a week or so before.

Lake Wellington

This past weekend, we went camping at Wellington Lake, which is a private lake (with private campsites) down in the Pike's Peak National forest. The reason we did a private campground is that I could not find any public campgrounds anywhere close to us that were not full of reservations for the weekend. One problem we have is that we do not plan far enough in advance to get reservations in. I do not know what weekends will be open until a week or before the weekend.

Anyway, on Thursday, the boys and I drove South 285, took a left at Pine Junction, traveled to FR550 and followed it to Wellington Lake. This gave Tracy a chick-flick night, and let us get an early pick (or so we thought) of the campsites.

The office at Wellington Lake was the most disorganized business setting I have ever seen. There was one lady checking people in where clearly, she needed one or two people helping out. She asked me if we wanted something by the lake (but without trees) or a mountain campsite (with trees but away from the lake). I decided to try a lake-side campsite, and she told me what campsites were available (or what campsites she thought were available) and had me go look at them to pick ours out. She gave me a choice of 5, but as it turned out, only two of them were actually available. Apparently, it she was so overwhelmed that she was unable to cross sites off in her little book as people claimed them.

Anyway, eventually, we claimed our site. The fee structure was sort of interesting to me. Rather than charge for the campsite, we paid per person per day. Apparently, you pay the same to go into the Wellington Lake area whether or not you camp there.

Thursday night, I was certain we had made the wrong decision (by the lake or in the mountains) because the wind by the lake was horrible from about 10pm until early in the morning.

But the next day, we ate our oatmeal, and got ourselves back in the minivan to go pick up Tracy. We got back to Wellington Lake around lunch time, so we ate lunch. The weather was rainy and windy and we spent time in the tent reading or playing games or whatever, but eventually all of a sudden, the sun came out BIG TIME. Very hot in the tent, so we went back to the office to rent a canoe. Yes, we (Tyler) fished, and no we did not catch anything. Connor was very nervous about sitting in the canoe. He was pretty convinced that we would tip over.

Luckily, Friday night was not windy, and Saturday was just gorgeous.

We went on a hike named "Waterfall Trail". It turned out to be a perfect length for Connor. Nice, since we had no idea going in. There were a lot of huge rocks and cave-like formations on the hike which was really cool. The waterfall was pretty neat too (we did not get a good picture actually by the waterfall, but the picture above is by the river as it goes down).

Our neighbors left during the day and left us some extra firewood, so we had a really good camp fire that night.

The picture above is our campsite on Sunday after we packed up. It is a really pretty spot, isn't it?

Tyler goes back to school next week. I do not know where the summer has gone. I am sort of hoping for a long Indian Summer so that we can get one or two more camping trips in this year. Next year I have to do a better job planning in advance.
