Juneteenth Paddle on Chatfield

I'm pretty inexperienced at Paddle Boarding. My first "real" time doing it was last year Labor Day Weekend SUP, and I've only really done it once or twice after that so far.

But, it's a fun thing to do on hot summer-like days.

This past Thursday was Juneteenth, which my employer has as a holiday. It was hot, and the wife  (aka the SheppyBrew Beer Model) also had it off. We thought it would be fun to get some paddling in.

So we packed up our paddling stuff, some beer, a lunch and headed down to Chatfield Reservoir.

My wife had an electric pump, but it takes much longer than me with my manual pump. I even had to finish off pumping her paddle board. I think maybe we need to look into a better one.

Anyway ...

Chatfield Reservoir has been expanded fairly recently, which caused the lake to have multiple trees growing up out of the lake last few times we were there. (see July Chatfield Kayak / SUP Photos)

Over the winter months, the trees have mostly been cut down and removed for safety. While I understand why they had to do it, it does make the experience a little less awesome.

But, it is still pretty fun.

One of the things I got for my birthday is a Bote "Magnapod" can cooler that works with my paddle board.

This was the first opportunity I had to try it out.

And it was real nice. There is something about drinking a couple beers on the water that is completely awesome.

I was thoroughly impressed with how well the magnets held onto each other.

We spent some time on the reservoir itself, and then headed up the South Platte River a ways.

It is very peaceful up the river. We didn't go all that far up river, but enough to get away from most of the "crowds" on the lake.

And ... we had our lunch on a little beach - like area.

After lunch, we headed back to the vehicle, packed up and headed back home.

According to Strava, we traveled about 3.5 miles over 1 hour and 43 minutes moving time. I actually got somewhat decent cardio exercise over that "workout" with 26 "relative effort".

Not bad.

Fun stuff. Great time on a Juneteenth Holiday.
