Labor Day Weekend SUP

My wife (aka the SheppyBrew Beer Model) and I spent the weekend up in the Breckenridge / Frisco / Dillon area over the Labor Day weekend.

One of the things we like to do when we're up there is spend some time on Dillon Reservoir on personal watercraft.

Generally, we bring one or two kayaks (depends on whether the kids are with us or not) and my wife's paddle board.

But, this year, our bigger vehicle was in the shop when we headed up there, and we decided to take a vehicle that does not have a roof rack.

This vehicle is not ideal for bringing a kayak, and we decided that we would pick up another inflatable SUP for this weekend.

That way, both our personal watercraft fit inside the vehicle.

So, since we started owning a SUP, back in 2021 (see Paddle Board), I've never really been on it much.

I generally am in a kayak with my wife on the SUP. She's really good at it, and I am not. I just am not as confident standing up as sitting in kayak.

But, of course sine we didn't have a kayak this weekend, I had to use the 2nd SUP.

I did ok. My wife has this process when getting going on her SUP. She starts sitting, then gets to a kneeling position and eventually gets to standing.

I honestly find it much easier to just get going in the standing position, so that's what I did.

And ... I'm proud to say that I never had to sit or kneel on the board during the 2.5 hours we were out there.

I'm also proud to say that I never fell into the water.

We stopped about noon to eat lunch at one of the islands, and after that, my wife made me go out to take some pictures while she stayed on the island.

These are probably the only existing pictures of me on a SUP.

After lunch, we headed back to shore. For some reason, it seems every time we go out, when we start off the wind is very calm.

And every time, coming back when the wind picks up, it always seems to be in our face.

My wife is always more affected by the wind, slowing her down, and in some cases getting pushed into going the wrong direction.

I always thought this was a function of me being in a kayak, but I wasn't affected much this time either, so my weight probably stabilizes me quite a bit.

I had to spend quite a bit of time waiting for my wife during the trip back to shore.

But, eventually we made it fine. It was fun, and I'm sure I'll be doing more paddle boarding in the future.

Not sure if you'll see any pictures of me, since my wife never takes pictures on the water.

But, if there are any photos of me paddle boarding, they'll probably be on Sheppy's Blog: SUP.

Anyway ... as always, stay tuned on the regular SheppyBrew Channels to see what is happening with beer and other things: SheppyBrew's Facebook PageSheppy's Twitter FeedSheppyBrew's Instagram Page; and SheppyBrew's Website.

Go Bears!
