We hardly go camping anymore. I actually suspect that I'm the only one who actually likes camping and the rest of the family only tolerates it to make me happy.
So, over the past few years, we pretty much only go camping on Fathers' Day weekend.
Oh well. At least I get to go once a year, and at least my family loves me enough to make me happy.
And ... this past weekend, we went up to Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP) for the weekend, and camped in the Aspenglen Campground.
Here are some photos of our trip .... (and I'm planning on posting more in a couple of days)
We've been camping in RMNP quite a few times, but this was our first time in Aspenglen Campground.
It is a nice quiet campground with decent sized campsites. At least ours was a pretty good size.
It also had flush toilets, and I thought the bathrooms were about the cleanest I've ever experienced while camping. That is especially important for the wife.
We got there Friday night. Basically set up the tents and then cooked up our dinner. Then, we started a campfire and sat around talking while I drank beers.
The next morning, we got up and had a quick breakfast. We headed over to a trail in the park called "Deer Mountain Trail".
The trail is listed as "Moderate" in All Trails, but for the most part it was a pretty easy climb. It was a little over 3 miles to a peak. Only about the last quarter mile or so were steep at all.
It might have been the easiest "Moderate" hike I've ever done on All Trails.
The views were amazing.
As is the case just about everywhere in RMNP.
We got to the top and had lunch overlooking much of the East side of the park and the town of Estes Park.
Then, we hiked back down.
It was pretty hot. Everyone pretty much finished their water pretty much as we got back to the car.
I had packed some more water in the vehicle, so it turned out just about perfect.
It was still early-ish afternoon and we headed up Trail Ridge Road rather than heading back to the campground.
Stay tuned a couple days for photos for our drive up Trail Ridge Road.
