A couple days ago I posted 2025 Fathers' Day Photos (Part 1), and I have more photos from that trip.
After the hike on Part 1, we decided that it was too early to go back to the campground, so we decided to drive up Trail Ridge Road, which is the main road running through the park 48 miles from Estes Park to Grand Lake.
About 11 of these miles are above tree line, which provides a much cooler temperature along with wonderfully spectacular views of gorgeous mountains.
If you look through Sheppy's Blog: RMNP, you'll see similar photos to these. Unfortunately, my pictures never do the experience justice.
So ... we traveled to the Alpine Visitors center, which I sort of consider half-way.
That got us up past 12,000 feet elevation.
So beautiful.
Lots of fun.
Eventually we had to head back down to the campground. Luckily, it had cooled down considerably by the time we got down there.
When we entered the campground, we were stopped by the Ranger at the entrance.
Apparently there had been an elk hanging out in our campsite. One of our neighbors thought it was acting "weird", and a wildlife officer had been called.
So, the Ranger told us to just be aware. Be careful.
The wildlife officer arrived while we were talking with the Ranger and she followed up around to our campground loop.
The elk had moved to another location. There were actually two big bulls by other campsites. One of them might have been the biggest elk I've ever seen.
But, neither were acting weird. So, I guess there was really no reason for the Ranger to warn us.
We spent the rest of the evening around the campsite. Ate dinner. Had a campfire. Went to sleep.
The next day was Father's Day. We had to pack up. I think I have enough photos for one more blog post.
If you keep an eye on Sheppy's Blog: RMNP, you'll likely see "Part 3" in a couple of days.
