I gave up beer for lent

I gave up beer for Lent.

Sort of.

I made the decision a little late, so I had a few beers the first Friday and Saturday of Lent.

I'm also letting myself have beer on Sundays, which some people don't consider part of Lent.

The main reason I'm giving up beer (Monday thru Saturday) is that my wife and kids are all giving up something, and I didn't want to be the only one not giving up anything.

We are also all giving up "electronics" on Sundays for Lent. No computers, cell phones, tablets, video games, TV, etc ... THIS is much more difficult than giving up beer the rest of the week.

Plus, my beer supply was getting a little low.

It isn't a huge sacrifice for me to give up beer.... especially since I am excluding Sundays.

My wife and I had a "date night" last night ... going to Dinner and "The Theater" with a group of people. It was weird ordering iced tea at a restaurant, but it wasn't a huge struggle or anything.

The first weekend of Lent this year was Presidents Day Weekend. My kids had that Friday and Monday off, so I took a couple of PTO days as well. We went to Winter Park as a birthday gift from my family to me.

It was nice.

We went tubing in Winter Park.

The day we went, the weather was gorgeous. It was sunny with not much wind, and it was warm for a wintery day in the mountains.

Tubing was a blast.

We did it for two hours. One hour is not enough. Two hours might be a little much, but we made it through.

Last weekend, we went on a hike.

Tomorrow, I am brewing Ello Poppet Czech Pilsner .

Since we are doing this whole "No Electronics Sundays" I won't be posting pictures to the SheppyBrew Facebook page as I usually do on my brew days.

I also have to remember to print out the Brewing Steps before I go to bed tonight, since I won't be able to look up the recipe on my phone or tablet tomorrow.

Ello Poppet is one of those beers that the Beer Model and I both like.... or at least that was the case last time I brewed it in 2012. It is also a hoppy beer that the Beer Model enjoys. She swears it isn't hoppy, but it is.

Anyway ... that is all I have for now.

Off to our Saturday family play things.

Go BlackHawks!
