L is for Littleton Brewing Company

If you've been following along on this blog, you probably know that we've been working on round 6 of our A to Z series of posts.

If you have not been following along and have no idea what I mean by A to Z series of posts, feel free to check it out. It's not real difficult to get the gist.

We're visiting breweries, letting the alphabet guide us to which brewery we visit next.

As I mentioned in K is for Knotted Root Brewing Company, we needed a "L" brewery next, and I was pretty sure which one we'd hit.

According to the Colorado Brewery Map & List, we had a few choices, but if you know the brewery scene in our area at all ... it comes as no surprise that ...

So, this past weekend we jumped on our bikes to ride to 1201 West Littleton Blvd Littleton, CO 80120, which is about an hour bike ride if you're following bike paths most of the way from our Home Brewery.

From the Littleton Brewing Company website:
"We take pride in crafting damn good beer that’s a testament to the rugged spirit of our community.

At the heart of our craft lies the essence of “Rough & Ready” - a philosophy that champions unrefined authenticity and bold flavors.

Whether you’re a craft beer connoisseur or just here for a fun, join us in celebrating the journey, one sip at a time."

Littleton Brewing Company is fairly new, and beer people in our local area have been waiting for what seemed like a ridiculous long amount of time for the place to open.

But, this spring, it finally opened. I've ridden my bike by the building a few times, but I wanted to save our first visit for our "L" brewery.

And ... as highly anticipated as the visit was, I was not disappointed. At all.

In fact, this might be my new favorite local brewery, and I really like a few of the breweries close to my home.

Conveniently, Littleton Brewing has a pretty good food menu. There are not a ton of choices, but it all looks like food that I like while drinking beers.

On Sunday, we ordered a food-fired pepperoni pizza for myself on the Beer Model.

While waiting for the food, we picked up a couple of flights.

Flight 1:
  • Little Comrade Pale Ale - XPA
A collaboration with Comrade Brewing Co. Brewed with domestic pilsner malt and Root Shoot Chit Malt. Hopped with Citra, Simcoe and McKenzie (a new variety from West Coast Hop Breeding Company) hops.

  • La Cosa Cerveza Lager
Hops: Hallertau Tradition, Motueka Tasting Notes: Brewed with malted corn for a subtle tamale dough flavor with lime aroma and flavor from the Motueka hops. This was the Beer Model's favorite. She ordered a pint after the flights.

  • Oui Bière D’Alsace French Pilsner
Hops: Barbe Rouge, Mistral & Strisselspalt Tasting Notes: Floral fruit & super clean. This was my favorite beer here, and I got a pint to finish up our pizza.

  • Rowdy Scout Hazy IPA
Hops: McKenzie, Amarillo, Citra & Simcoe Tasting Notes: Pillowy soft with sweet fruit, passion fruit, stone fruit, mango, and citrus.
I loved all these beers, rating them all highly on untappd.

Flight 2:
  • Recalibration Hazy IPA
Hops: Colorado-grown Cascade, Mosaic & El Dorado Tasting Notes: Built on Calibration & fermented with Berkeley Yeast TROPICS London thiolized yeast for tropical mango & papaya

  • Odd Fish West Coast IPA
In collaboration with Station 26 Hops: Anchovy, WCHB-102 Tasting Notes: Watermelon candy, prickly pear, lemon, lime, with a watermelon rind like bitterness.

  • Phantom Fog Foreign Extra Stout (Nitro) Stout - Foreign
Hops: Galena Tasting Notes: Intense dark chocolate, coffee & caramel

  • Iron Hull Baltic Porter
Hops: Cluster Tasting Notes: A smooth & clean lager with malty sweetness, caramel, coffee, chocolate, toffee and fruit

This flight was also good. All the beers were fantastic. Flight 1 was slightly better in both our opinions.

The pizza was also great.

Honestly, the whole experience was fantastic. Now that we've checked off "L", I think this is someplace we'll stop by quite often.

They also had a few guest taps which we didn't try, but it's good to know they have a decent selection.

We didn't even try out their roof-top bar, which is a cool feature of the place.

I would have liked to pick up a 6-pack of the French Pilsner, but they apparently don't offer that quite yet. Too busy trying to keep up with tap-room traffic.

The ride home went well. The weather report threatened afternoon thunderstorms, but those never actually happened.

What a great lunch trip!

So, if you find yourself in Littleton, Colorado, check out Littleton Brewing Company. It is worth the visit.

Now, we find ourself at "M". At the moment, I don't really know what local brewery starts with an "M" so we might have to take artistic license on the next one.

But, stay tuned and you'll find out where we end up going.
