It is rare that SheppyBrew Home Brewery makes a "big", high alcohol beer.
By some standards, you might even say that SheppyBrew has never brewed a big beer.
Generally, my beers are in the 4 - 6% ABV range. Sometimes I go a little higher. But, not very often at all.
For me, two of the beers I have on tap right now Kemosabe Quad and King Fergus Wee Heavy are high abv beers at 8.5% and 8%.
But there are a couple of bigger SheppyBrew recipes.
Schnockered to Comfortably Numb was a 10% ABV Barleywine I brewed at the end of 2013. I brewed it so that I would have a beer in the 2008 BJCP Category 19: Strong Ale. According to my notes, I seem to have enjoyed it, but it looks like it lasted almost 2 years. I have a tasting note saying it was "almost done" in December of 2015. Most of my beers now don't last more than 2 months.
NSFW Belgium Golden Strong Ale was a 9.5% ABV Belgium Golden Strong I brewed in July of 2013, as my official example of the 2008 BJCP Category 19: Belgium Strong Ale. The notes seem to indicate that I liked it for the most part, but it certainly wasn't one of my favorites by any means. It also lasted quite awhile, with my last tasting note being in April of 2015.
Brother Bear Dopplebock (AG) was an 8.5% ABV Dopplebock that I brewed in January of 2016. I had checked off all the Categories in the 2008 BJCP Guidelines but the 2015 Guidelines came out, requiring me to brew beers in new categories. This beer helped me satisfy Category 9: Strong European Beers. Of my "big" beers, I think it is safe to say this one was my favorite. My notes say I killed the keg in October of 2016, so I consumed it faster than the first two, but certainly not as fast as I usually go through batches.
Of course Kemosabe Quad and King Fergus Wee Heavy are also beers I brewed to help satisfy my BJCP Goal, although now we are on the 2021 Guidelines and I'm checking off individual styles rather than Categories.
And ... I think those are my highest ABV beers, but it is possible I missed some that are also up there.
It is unlikely I'll brew any beers higher than any of these in the future, but I suppose anything is possible.
Keep an eye on Sheppy's Blog: Big Beer, and you may find out if I ever brew any more in this range.
