Gnomeberry Hollow Cherry Porter (Batch 382)

I brewed Sunday.

I've gotten myself into a situation where I'm running low on beer "inventory". The last time I brewed before this batch was 1519 Barker Exportbier (Batch 361) in early September.

And this ... with Learn to Homebrew Day coming up ...

I'll probably be brewing quite a few batches between now and November, which is likely to put me in the opposite situation.

Anyway ... I posted about this recipe back in JULY ... Roll-a-Style 10: 29C. Specialty Fruit Beer, but I took a break on the Roll-a-Style beers with Johnny McClure Rainier Lager and 1519 Barker Exportbier.

Plus, I thought the name was more appropriate to brew in October. Now ... it's time to get back into it ...

I actually remembered to set up the Anvil Foundry to heat up the water overnight / early morning, and was up sometime before 6am to get the mash going. It was nice to not have to do all that in the morning.

It was another one of those days that I got the mash done and drained pretty much right before church and let the Foundry heat up to just below boiling while I was away.

#MULTITASKING

My pre-boil gravity was a little high with my volume a little low, so I diluted the wort a little before starting the boil.

The boil itself went well. I remembered to add everything I was supposed to.

The honey and the fruit puree went straight into the fermenter. Actually, with such a dark flavorful beer, I'm not sure either will come through. Maybe the fruit, but probably not the honey.

Oh well ... those were added more to check off the style than anything.

With those adjuncts, the OG was a couple points high, which is just fine with me.

I was pretty much done with brew day around 11:00 am.

Fermentation has been going well. It did take a little longer to get going than I would have liked, but it was rocking by the afternoon on Monday.

I will probably get this into a keg fairly quickly. Hopefully it will be ready to share by early November for a potential Learn to Homebrew Day celebration. Maybe even by Halloween, which I think would be appropriate for the name.

Stay tuned .. and you will probably find out.
