2015 Q3 SheppyBrew Stats

The SheppyBrew Brewery likes to post quarterly updates on how much we have brewed. You can see all these updates (including the one you are reading right now) by following this link:http://blog.ericshepard.com/search/label/Brew%20Stats .

Q3 of 2015 was another busy quarter at the Brewery. We brewed six batches:
Chelsea Dagger

Gnaughty Cocoa and Base Lovin' were unusual in that they were 4 gallon batches, making the total volume of beer that I brewed in Q3 28 gallons. For all of 2015 so far I have brewed 78 gallons. I am still on pace to brew around 100 gallons in 2015.

Of the 6 batches, 4 were brand new recipes for SheppyBrew (Chelsea DaggerHappy FeetBase Lovin'Gnaughty Cocoa). This puts me at 10 new recipes for 2015. Last year, I only did 10 new recipes all year.

Apricot Lovin'

Chelsea Dagger Pre-Prohibition Lager is (of course) a lager. This is my 2nd lager of 2015, and I do expect to brew another lager in the 4th quarter. 3 lagers is about my usual yearly total.

Of course, all these batches are all-grain.

I bottled most of Base Lovin' American Wheat (the rest was blended into Apricot Lovin' to tone down the apricot flavor). I also bottled all of Gnaughty Gnome Cocoa Stout. My empty bottle collection is pretty much wiped out, so if I am going to bottle my X-Mas ale this year, I have some drinking to do.

Happy Feet Boil

I think the stand-out surprise of the quarter is Chelsea Dagger Pre-Prohibition Lager. It is wonderfully hoppy. The only commercial pre-prohibition lager I've had has been the Batch 19 from Coors, and Chelsea Dagger tastes light years better than that. So, it is very possible that the Dagger isn't really "to style", but I really don't care since I love to drink this beer so much.

I am also extremely happy with Happy Feet Best Bitter. It has a nice malty base with fuggle hop flavors. It isn't really that bitter, so others who generally don't like bitter beer have said great things about it too. Happy Feet is also a gluten reduced beer and I sent some to "Gretchen" before and after GABF.

Double Brew Day

I'm not sure what Q4 will bring. I know I will be brewing my Autumn Seasonal Saison this weekend as my first brew of the quarter. I am pretty sure I will brew T.RA.SH. Mexican Lager this quarter. I also need to brew a 2015 X-Mas Ale. Other than those 3 batches, I don't know what is coming.

Pumpkin for Will-o-Wisp

So there you go. Keep an eye on this blog and my other outlets (especially the SheppyBrew Facebook Page) so that you can keep up with what is going on in the brewery.

Go Blackhawks!
