Skadoosh Blond Ale (Batch 386)

I brewed some beer a couple Sundays ago. 12/12/2025.

If I'm counting correctly, this is my 19th batch of 2025, putting me at 95 gallons brewed this year.

It's the 386th batch of beer I've ever brewed.

It is a new recipe, my 15th new one of the year and 346th unique recipe I've brewed.

I actually have quite a lot of beer inventory, but I have family coming to visit around Christmas and the beers I have are not really beer-flavored-yellow-beer-drinker-friendly styles.

And ... at least one of the people visiting is/are beer-flavored-yellow-beer-drinker(s).

So ... I came up with a simple blond ale recipe to (hopefully) be ready to go by Christmas.

Honestly, I should have brewed it sooner, but it should be ready to go in time. I don't know if I'll actually be able to make space in the kegerator or the beer fridge. So, I might have to decided which beer to take off tap to get this one in.

I guess we'll see how it goes.

Anyway, I didn't prepare anything the night before and I didn't get up particularly early on Sunday.

In addition to brewing, I smoked some Chuck Roast.

Since it was Sunday and I didn't get up early enough to finish before time for church, I got the mash done and set the Anvil Foundry to heat up to just below boiling while I was away at church.

This technique has pretty much become SOP for Sunday brew days.

When I measured the pre-boil gravity after coming home, it was high enough that I diluted the batch, which delayed the process a little. The wort had to get back up in temperature.

The boil went well. I designed the beer for only a 30 minute boil.

I got the boil additions in there at the right time.

I pulled the chucky off at some point to finish up in the Crock Pot.

Chilling went a little slow, but that happens sometimes. It was fine.

I got everything finished up around 11am. Then, I headed out for a bike ride and watched both the Bears and the Broncos win.

Bonus! The Broncos beat the Packers, which put the Bears back into the top spot in the NFC North.

Fermentation went pretty good. I'll be kegging this soon.

The chuck roast was wonderful.
