Cold Brewed French Press Coffee

You may remember that I got a French Press for Christmas this past year.

I drink a lot of coffee, and most of it comes out of the Keurig, but I usually use the French Press when I feel like I have a few extra minutes to make coffee in a more "relaxed" manner.

To be honest, I'm not sure the French Press is actually that much more time consuming than the Keurig.

Anyway ... in the French Press post, I intended to do a few more blog posts on it. Until today, I have not really done that but ...

Easter Ham

I made ham on Easter Sunday this past weekend.

I'm pretty sure this is the best double smoked ham I've ever made.

To be honest, it blows my mind how fast Easter came and went this year. It seems like Lent was hardly anything.

By the way, I gave up coffee for Lent. Not really a religious thing. I'm pretty sure God doesn't care if I drink coffee at all.

I sort of just wanted to prove to myself that I could still do it.

But ... this blog post isn't about my lack of coffee ... It's about my Easter Ham.

French Press

I got a French Press Coffee maker for Christmas.

I drink a lot of coffee. Before the French Press, I only made my coffee with a Keurig machine. Usually with the Biodegradable K-Cups I mentioned quite a few years ago.

I wanted a French Press for a few reasons:

  • I thought it would be convenient to take on trips ... maybe even camping.
  • I wouldn't use so many k-cups, which are more expensive than I think they should be.
  • It seemed like it would be a cool way to make coffee.
  • You can froth milk for lattes (more on this in a later post).

Biodegradable K-Cups

This past Christmas, I received a Keurig coffee machine as a gift.

It is nice to have. Being able to make myself a cup of coffee at a time is really more in-line with how I generally drink coffee from home. Usually, I only need one cup on my way out for work.

Awesome.

I was talking with a co-worker about my new toy.

He mentioned that he also had one. He loves his. He lamented the fact that all the single serving "K-Cups" were made of non-degradable plastic and ending up in land fills.

Quite honestly, until this guy mentioned the land-fills, I had not even thought of that issue. But once he mentioned it, I could not stop thinking about my K-Cups sitting around for millions of years.

"Surely," I said, "someone has thought to make something bio-degradable."

Turns out I was correct. My co-worker found San Francisco Bay "OneCup" biodegradable single serve coffee cups that work in our Keurig machines.

Lattes

Hello my name is Eric and I am addicted to Venti Vanilla Non-Fat Lattes.

I am ashamed to say it but I am addicted. Anyone who pays $4.00 for a coffee is an idiot. Well, I guess, I am not very smart. To be fair, it is $3.89, not $4.00, so I guess I am 11 cents less stupid than originally portrayed. AND, I only purchase these with my company credit card on my way to a client or while talking business with an associate, so these are tax deductible. In a way the government is subsidizing my addiction.

It started out innocently enough, but that does not really matter. An addiction is an addiction. I just hope my wife never finds out. She would be so disappointed in me.

At least I have plenty of company. Starbucks is ridiculously popular. There are shops all around and even so they are packed. It is bad enough to pay almost $4 for a coffee, but to pay $4 and to have to wait is even worse. Only idiots would do it.

Anyway, someday I will kick the addiction. Or maybe I won't. Either way, It probably will not destroy my life. But, the shame of it all certainly will not be easy to live with.
