Q1 of 2016 at the SheppyBrew Brewery was busy early in the quarter, but then slowed down. I brewed three batches in January alone, but then only 1 in February and none in March.
In case you don't want to do the Math, that's 4 batches:
- Arctic Vortex Winter Saison
- Ulterior Motive Amber Lager
- Brother Bear Dopplebock
- Ello Poppet Czech Pilsner
Those batches were each 5 gallons, putting my total first quarter volume at 20. I'm on pace for only 80 gallons this year. Last year, I brewed 6 batches in Q1. I'm off that pace.
Of these 4 batches, Ulterior Motive Amber Lager and Brother Bear Dopplebock were both new recipes.
I've already brewed 3 lagers in Q1 (Ulterior Motive Amber Lager, Brother Bear Dopplebock, and Ello Poppet Czech Pilsner). 3 lagers is about my average for a year. I think this might be the record year for SheppyBrew lagers, because I am almost positive I'll brew some more sometime during the rest of the year.

My batches are still all grain. Maybe someday I'll do another batch with extract, but certainly not much.
I didn't bottle anything in Q1, so everything has been kegged.

As you may remember, I am keeping my eye on the 2015 BJCP Style Guidelines for brewing ideas this year. Ulterior Motive Amber Lager (Category 2. International Lager) and Brother Bear Dopplebock (Category 9, Strong European Beer) resulted from that little initiative . Watch Sheppy's Blog: BJCP Goal for more updates on that.
Quarter 2 has started ok. I've done 2 batches so far, including another of the 2015 BJCP Style Guideline styles, but I'll let you dig through the blog and/or wait until the 2nd Quarter report for those.
If you follow this blog, you've probably seen that SheppyBrew Brewery is now on Instagram. Check us out for brew-day and sampling pictures....
And of course, you can also always follow us on SheppyBrew's Facebook Page; Sheppy's Twitter Feed; and SheppyBrew's Website.
Again, if you specifically want to check out these Quarterly Reports, bookmark Sheppy's Blog: Brew Stats. Hopefully I'll get the 2nd Quarter report out earlier after the Quarter ends.
Take care everyone.
Go Blackhawks!
