A is for Arms, Call To Brewing Company

Well, if you follow this blog at all, you probably realize that we recently finished up A to Z Denver Breweries Round 5.

While we certainly have a bunch of breweries left on the Colorado Brewery Map & List, I wasn't sure if we'd continue along with the A to Z series of posts.

There are a bunch of letters (including the letter "A") that we have to fudge a little to cover Denver-area breweries.

We had a good run working our way through the alphabet 5 times, but I wasn't sure it made sense to continue down the alphabet.

But, apparently, my wife (aka the SheppyBrew Beer Model) was (and is) sure, and we're continuing. I don't even have a choice....

... or as it is more commonly called ... Call to Arms Brewing Company ...

I actually thought we were going to visit this brewery in Round 5 when we needed a "C" brewery, but back in October of 2023, the Beer Model wasn't sure she'd like the beers on the Beer List, and we picked another brewery.

I guess it is good she didn't want to go, since we needed a Round 6 "A" brewery, and the Call to Arms Beer List is now acceptable.

Call to Arms Brewing Company is located at 4526 Tennyson Street Denver, CO, which is very close to a number of other breweries we've covered on this blog.

It is a great little neighborhood.

From the website:
Call to Arms Brewing Company was founded by three fellas who met whilst partaking in a shared passion — brewing, cellaring, and packaging beer at Avery Brewing company in Boulder, CO. As veterans of the craft beer community with a combined 20 years of experience, we decided to blaze our own trail and leave a lasting imprint on the industry and in the city we love. This is our Call to Arms.

Brewer owned and operated, Call to Arms places the utmost importance on the quality of our product and the taproom experience for our guests. Blending our backgrounds and cultures, we choose to focus on a love of local, traditional food and drink and to create a timeless, relaxed, non-pretentious neighborhood-friendly brewery focusing on craft beers, community gathering, and good ol' fashioned fun. We take our beer seriously, yes. But we don't take ourselves too seriously. Our goal is to make good beer, and we like to have fun while doing just that.

When we got there, it was a little confusing to us where it actually was. They share a building with a restaurant called Kalaka Mexican Restaurant, which is where we walked in at first.

But a nice waiter was kind enough to point us in the right direction.

The taproom is nice and there is a great beer garden area.

We started with 2 flights of 4 ...

The Beer Model ordered:
  • Ballroom Beer ... American Lager: A light-bodied lager designed with drinkability in mind.
  • Operation Steingrabber ... Czech Dark Lager: A rich, dark, malty Czech-style lager with pronounced roast character.
  • I Remember My Fest Bier ... Festbier: Nice bready drinkable clean golden lager.
  • Tennyson Standard ... Kolsch: A pretty solid Kolsch.

I ordered:
  • CTA IPA ... "Denver Style: IPA: A bitter, moderately strong American pale ale that uses its clean, supporting malt to showcase its hop character.
  • Double Dry Hopped Reno ... Hazy IPA: Big juicy hop aroma and flavor, low bitterness and malt flavor.
  • More Like Bore-O-Phyll ... Fresh Hop West Coast IPA: Great West-Coast IPA with crystal clear finish and great hop flavor.
  • This Beer Foxx ... New Zealand IPA: Even though it was visually ugly, it was my favorite hoppy beer that I had here. Great NZ hop flavor.

I enjoyed all the beers. After the flights, I got a pint of "This Beer Foxx" and the Beer Model got a pint of the Festbier.

I certainly hope we'll be able to make our way back to this brewery. I can certainly recommend you try it out if you're in the Tennyson neighborhood.

So ... since the Beer Model is forcing me into "Round 6" of the A to Z series of posts, I guess we'll have to pick out a "B" brewery.

We actually have quite a few choices of Denver-area breweries starting with "B" on the Colorado Brewery Map & List, and I have no idea which one we'll pick.

I'm sure the Beer Model will let me know. If you follow along at Sheppy's Blog: A to Z, you'll find out shortly after I do.
