Alcatraz

As you may remember from recent posts, The family visited San Francisco for Spring Break this year.

You know we took many many pictures of The Golden Gate Bridge.

You've also seen pictures of us hiking in Muir Woods.

Another of our activities was to visit Alcatraz.

Both kids told us that their favorite part of the trip was this Alcatraz visit.

The day was beautiful and the boat ride if pretty fun. Plus, when it comes right down to it,  Alcatraz is pretty awesome.

Really a must-see when you visit San Francisco. Here are some photos:

To be honest, I did not realize until we started talking about going to Alcatraz that it is managed by the National Park Service.

The ferry ride to the island doesn't take very long, and is pretty fun.

The views from the boat on a nice sunny day are awesome.

An then, the island itself is very picturesque as the boat approaches.

It is even more beautiful on the island than I expected.

And then the prison and the rest of the buildings are really really cool to see.

The audio tour is great.

Before we went to San Francisco, we watched Escape from Alcatraz, and I was fairly amazed how accurately that movie depicted the prison.

Views of the city and the surrounding area were amazing from the island.

We got more pictures of the Golden Gate Bridge while there.

Honestly it was just great.

We spent several hours on the island.

And the boat ride back to the city was fun too.

Very very awesome. Fun fun fun.

I'm glad we went.
