Still More @Untappd Badges

Despite the fact that I am quite sure no one cares, I've been sharing the badges that I've earned on Untappd (see First Month of Untappd and Running for Mayor @BallyFitness , and Some more Badges @Untappd ). I am not sure what is wrong with me. I just don't have anything interesting or insightful to write, so I just post uninteresting drivel like this. Hope you don't mind too much.

Here are the badges I've earned since last time:

I Believe in IPA! (Level 3 and Level 4) ... Apparently I've tried 3 IPAs in a 30 day period for the 3rd and then 4th time. I should be able to get to a pretty high level on this one. Three IPA's in a 30 day period is not very many. To get the level 3 badge, the 3rd beer I tried was Black IPA by Lone Tree Brewing Co. To get the level 4 badge, it was IPA by Lakefront Brewery.

Birthday Brew ... I earned this badge by having a beer on my birthday. The beer I had to get his was a 471 Extra ESB by Breckenridge Brewery at Breckenridge Brewery

Brew Bowl XLVI ... I got this one by having a beer on the day of the Superbowl. The beer that got me this badge was a Maharaja by Avery Brewing Company.

New Brew Thursday (Level 3) ... Third time I've tried a new beer on 3 Thursdays in a 30 day period. This time, my third new beer was Red Failure by SheppyBrew at SheppyBrew Brewery (see Eric's Red failure on this blog for more information on this beer)

The Usual ... I had the same beer 15 times in 30 days. This was actually a badge that I purposely targeted. As a home-brewer (with a couple of kegs on tap), I would have had this number of beers anyway, but I would not have checked-in if I had not seen the potential to earn this badge. The beer that I drank was my Stone Soup IDA.

Above the Clouds ... I had a beer on an airplane to get this badge. It was a Heineken by Heineken B.V. on a Southwest Airlines flight.

As you can tell if you have read my other untappd posts (see First Month of Untappd and Some more Badges @Untappd), my badge-earning-rate is slowing down. I'm not drinking less beer, there are just less of the easy badges to earn.

While in Wisconsin, I had the opportunity to check Surly Furious off my Zymurgy List. I didn't really photograph it or take tasting notes, so I won't say a whole lot about it. It is hoppy and it is good. In fact, I think I would rank it high compared to other IPAs and think maybe it could be higher on the list.

Surly Furious was tied for #20 on my list. I have now tried all 5 of the top 5. I have tried all of the top 10 and all of the top 15. I have now had 40 of the entire list (52 total).

Here are the ones still left on my "not tried list":

T16. Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA ... year round beer. Should be able to find in CO.
19. Bell’s Expedition Stout ... doesn't distribute to CO. Should have had my sister look for this.
T20. Samuel Adams Noble Pils... spring seasonal that I should be able to find in CO.
T20. Troegs Nugget Nectar ... PA brewery. Can't get in CO.
T29. Three Floyds Alpha King ... A Chicago-land beer. Can't get in CO
T29. Three Floyds Dark Lord ... available one day a year in April at the brewery
T34. Dogfish Head Indian Brown ... year round. Might be able to find in CO.
T34. Three Floyds Gumballhead ... don't even see this beer on their website.
T38. Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA ... limited availability
T43. Russian River Blind Pig ... not sure if I will be able to get this in CO.
T48. Dark Horse Crooked Tree ... Midwest distribution only.
T48. Summit EPA ... Another MN beer I should have had my sister look for.

You can look at the entire list here: http://www.homebrewersassociation.org/pages/community/news/show?title=2011-best-beers

  1. Did you get the Mardi Gras badge from yesterday? Just had to check in one beer on Feb. 21st to get it. I think Untapped is a fun site, but I don't spend much effort there as it merely echoes what I've been recording and reviewing on my blog anyway. Still, every once in a while I get a new badge when I least expect it. Just got the 25 unique beers badge last night same time as the Mardi Gras one.

  2. Shoot! I did not check in to any beers last night (didn't drink any either). I was thinking there might be a Mardi Gras badge, but I never checked to see for sure. Oh well, I'll have to try to remember next year.
