2024 Q1 SheppyBrew Stats

It feels like I say this a lot ...

The year is flying by. Not just this year. Every year flies by. Crazy how fast it all goes.

Anyway ... here we are in April, which means that the first quarter of 2023 is done. It's time to report on the  SheppyBrew Brewing Stats for the quarter.

Remember that last year, I kept saying I would slow down brewing and end up brewing less volume than I had in 2022.

I did end up slightly down by the end of the year, but it certainly never looked like I had slowed down at all.

At the end of the first quarter last year, I had brewed 6 batches of beer and had 31 gallons.

Arctic Vortex Winter Saison

This year, I've "only" brewed 5 batches for 25 gallons of beer, putting me on pace for "only" 100 gallons for 2024.

As I'm writing this, we have not kicked any of the kegs yet, so I have all of these on tap except the Alex's GPT, which is waiting for an open spot in the Beer Fridge.

Said Strumpet Czech Pale Lager

Of the 5 batches, 2 are brand-new recipes. Both Said Strumpet and Alex's GPT were created with the aid of ChatGPT. To be honest, I don't think ChatGPT does a great job it you don't know how to prompt it into a decent recipe, which sort of defeats the purpose of having the AI figure it out, but it is fun to play with none-the-less.

You'll see more recipes that ChatGPT starts for me, but my ending recipes will never be exactly what the AI gives me.

Said Strumpet was a Roll-a-Style recipe that added to my BJCP Goal.

Mardi Bock

This quarter, I brewed 2 lagers (Said Strumpet and Mardi Bock). That matches what I did in Q1 last year. I expect I'll brew lots of lagers in 2024, but we'll see.

Unlike last year, I don't think I'll do any Pressure Fermented lagers this year. I did ferment McShepardSons in the Chubby, but didn't have the spunding valve restricting the gas.

All the beers so far have been All-Grain in the Foundry. My wife (aka The SheppyBrew Beer Model) helped me brew Alex's GPT, so if I end up with over 100 gallons of beer this year, I won't be arrested.

McShepardSons Irish Ale

I have not traveled to brew yet. Big Brew Day is coming up in May, so it is likely I'll visit Doc's Brewery or Du's Brewery the first Saturday in May.

Coming up ... I am planning on brewing my Spring Seasonal Saison next. I also really want to brew Helles in a Hand Bock-sket to have on tap in May.

I also want to get more of my Roll-a-Style / BJCP Goal beers brewed.

Alex's Golden Paradise Tangerine Wheat

I'm not really planning on much else. We'll have to see how it goes.

As always, stay tuned on the regular SheppyBrew Channels to see what is happening with beer and other things: SheppyBrew's Facebook PageSheppy's Twitter FeedSheppyBrew's Instagram Page; and SheppyBrew's Website.
