Running for Mayor @BallyFitness

After using Untappd for a month, I shared the badges that I had "earned" (see First Month of Untappd). Since then, I decided to check out foursquare . Mostly because Untappd can share its check-ins with foursquare.

The first place I checked in was my health club Bally Total Fitness. When I checked in, foursquare told me that "the mayor" was currently there. Interestingly enough, I recognized the face, although I don't really know the guy. I might have said "hi" to him once or twice, but maybe not. Of course, I had no idea what being a fourquare mayor meant, but I knew I had to try to become the mayor of something.

Since then, I have determined that to be a "mayor" of a particular location, I have to have more check-ins at that location than anyone else in a 60 day period. I honestly can't think of anyplace I would be able to check-into more than the health club.

Last Wednesday, the mayor of my Bally had been there 30 times in the 60 day period. That is a little more often than I go to the health club, but I can totally step up my game in the next two months, and I think I can get to that level if I really set my mind to it. Of course, I have no idea what that target number is going to be in the future, but that is part of the fun.

So, here I go. Today, I'm going to start my campaign to become Mayor of my Bally Total Fitness. Wish me luck. I may or may not report my progress.

Since the blog post First Month of Untappd, I have earned a few more badges:

Oktoberfest: I think I earned this by drinking 3 different Oktoberfest-style lagers. The third one that got me the badge was a Samuel Adams Octoberfest by Boston Beer Company.

Night Out: I'm not sure what the criteria is for this badge. I suspect it is checking into an actual location after a certain time of night. I got it while checking in a Fat Tire at Fogo de Chao, which is where we had our company Christmas party.

I Believe in IPA! (Level 2): Apparently, if every time you try 3 IPAs in a 30 day period, you are able to climb a "level" on this badge. I don't know how many of the other badges have levels. The beer that actually got me this promotion was Hoptree Double IPA by Lone Tree Brewing Co. at Lone Tree Brewery.

  1. I'd totally vote for you...if it was a voting thing...and I was a Bally member.
