Drinking Ellie's Brown Ale

While grilling some brats Saturday evening, I drank my third beer from the 5280 Seasonal Six Pack. Avery Brewing Company's Ellie's Brown Ale pours deep dark brown with a nice tan head. I do not know if I may have just been in the right mood for a brown ale, but I thought this beer was absolutely fantastic.

The aroma came through all malt. It was wonderfully chocolaty what might have been a bit of brown sugar. I got a little bit of nuttiness as I breathed it in.

Across my pallet, this beer struck me as incredibly smooth and balanced. I guess I would say it had a bit of initial sweetness, but overall it came across as neither sweet nor bitter. Avery did a masterful job using the hop bitterness to counteract the malt sweetness. I would call this perfectly balanced.

The chocolate malts gave the beer had a wonderfully smooth creamy mouth feel. I would say it is a medium to full bodied beer.

I have to say that I was a bit bummed out when this beer was gone. I wished I could have had more with my brats. I really enjoyed this beer.
