2013 Q3 SheppyBrew Stats

It is that time again! It is time to post quarterly updates on how much the SheppyBrew Brewery  has brewed. I've been doing this for quite some time because it is fun for me to go back and look at how the brewery has been doing. Plus, believe it or not, readers have mentioned they enjoy looking at the brewing stats. You can see all of these reports (including the one you are reading right now) by following this link: http://blog.ericshepard.com/search/label/Brew%20Stats .

I think the most exciting news in Q3 is that SheppyBrew won another award. Helles in a Hand Bock-sket, my Maibock, won a blue ribbon and got 2nd in the Best of Show in the "Battle of the Homebrews" at the Arapahoe Country Fair. A county fair 1st place isn't nearly as prestigious as Sasquatch Hunter's blue ribbon in the Denver Region of the National Homebrew Competition, but it is still an award. Plus, getting 1st Loser in the Best of Show is awesome (if I do say so myself).

As far as brewing goes, I did 4 batches this past quarter: NSFW Golden Strong; SWMBO Wheat; Sloth Man MildX-Mas Ale 2013. This was 20 gallons. This puts me at 15 batches and 77 gallons for the year. I told you I would slow down this quarter. Last year, I brewed 22 batches for 105 gallons. I expect I'll end up right about the same in 2013.

All 4 of these batches are brand new recipes for SheppyBrew, bringing my 2013 total up to 10. I am still behind the 16 new recipe pace of 2012. This is hard to believe considering my BJCP Category Goal, but I guess I just did a lot of new recipes last year.

I didn't do any lagers this quarter. I don't think I'll get to any more lagers this year. Interesting that it looks like all my lagers for 2013 will have been brewed in Q1.

Again, all my batches for the whole year have been all-grain batches. While sometimes I miss the simplicity of an extract batch, I don't think I'll do any non-all-grain batches the rest of the year.

I kegged 2 of the 4 batches this quarter, so I am up to 12 kegged batches for the year. I think I should easily beat 2013's record of 15 kegged batches.

In the 2nd quarter, I took a little break from my BJCP Category Goal (see SheppyBrew Styles). In this 3rd quarter, though I took care of three categories with NSFW Golden Strong (category 18 Belgium Strong Ale), Sloth Man Mild (category 11 English Brown Ale) and X-Mas Ale 2013 (category 22 Smoke-Flavored and Wood-Aged Beer).

I have 3 BJCP categories left to brew. I'll probably be taking care of one this weekend with Weizened Doonkle, a  Category 15 Dunkelweizen. Then, I'll just need to do a Porter for Category 12 and a Strong Ale (probably a barleywine) for Category 19.

And that is SheppyBrew's 2013 Q3 report. Hope you enjoyed it at least a little. As always, if you have a question, comment, or concern of any kind, feel free to leave a comment below.
