Facebook readers, this is another one where you'll have to go to the blog to see the videos. Go here: http://blog.ericshepard.com/2010/12/its-comming.html
We went to our church's Christmas celebration thing today. Tyler and Connor decorated (and devoured) cookies. They also did other craft type things including making magic reindeer food.
Connor and Tyler assumed themselves before the service. I honestly don't know what they are doing here.
or here:
Not far from our house there are a couple of houses together that go way overboard with decorations on ALL the major holidays. I think maybe one couple owns both houses. They need two to store all their decorations during the year. What you are about to see below doesn't even give justice to the situation. I actually think they go even crazier on Halloween than they do Christmas.
I apologize for the crappy quality of my cell phone videos, but I think you can get the idea here.

2011 Calendar Photos
I am working on finishing up our 2011 calendar. I posted all the pictures in a facebook album. Even if you don't have a facebook account, you can see them here: 2011 Calendar Pictures . Of course, if you are a recipient of the calendar, and don't want ruin the surprise, don't look. But, there are a few pictures that didn't make the cut for the final version, so you might want to keep it bookmarked to go look at after the year is up. Who, you may ask, are getting these calendars? Well, if you got one last year, chances are good you will get one this year. If you didn't get one last year, chances are good you won't get one this year.
I had forgotten about this picture:
This was my attempt to make it look like Connor was holding Tyler in his hand. I probably could have done an even better job if I had more cooperation, but I think it actually turned out pretty good. The boys both think it does look as intended. They think it looks cool. I suppose now that they see the result, they'll want to do this a bunch. Probably it will get to the point that I get sick of one son in another's hand.

news.ericshepard.com
Ok ... perhaps there is something to this whole twitter movement.
Thanks to twitter (specifically The Beer Wench ), I found out about http://paper.li/ .
If you go to http://news.ericshepard.com, you'll see "The ESheppy Daily". Take a look at it. Go ahead, look. This free service went through my tweets and tweets of those that I follow to put together a newspaper looking thing. Apparently, it generates a new online "newspaper" every day.
It also put together SheppyBrew Weekly (http://news.sheppybrew.com), which is basically the same thing except its compiled weekly on a subset (a list) of tweeters.
Apparently, if I want to, I can create one based on my facebook account. I might try that sometime just to see how it compares. As a general rule, I hate giving applications access to my facebook account.
It actually does a pretty decent job of organizing Twitter into something relevant and useful. Or at least I think so after looking through it today. It is pretty cool.

Loser
I've been blogging since June 27th, 2005 (http://blog.ericshepard.com/2005/06/blogging.html). My sister has been blogging since September 19, 2008 (http://bluefield5.blogspot.com/2008/09/to-blog-or-not-to-blog.html). Since she started her blog , we've had an unofficial "competition" on who has the greatest number of blog posts each month. I put "competition" in quotes, because there really is no comparison. She had almost as many posts in the last 4 months of 2008 (83) than I had all year (87). She has beaten me a couple months by 21 posts. I've never even gotten close to 21 blog posts in a month. That is a worse blow-out than when the Broncos played the Raiders this year.
Of course, she started out at an insane pace, and has been a bit more reasonable since that first 12 months or so. In March of 2009, I even beat her by 1. (I won't mention that she gave up the internet for lent that year). In August of 2009, I also beat her 5 to 4 (I'm sure there was some reason she could not get to her computer that month too, although, I don't remember for sure).
This year, I've actually beaten her 3 whole months: June (11 to 7), September (12 to 1), and November (8 to 5). You might think that means I am getting more competitive, but she actually let me win in September, which hurts even more than getting blown out. With all those GABF posts, I might have even had a legitimate chance to win that month (probably not if she really tried, but if she had a slightly less-than-average-posting-month for whatever reason, I might have had a chance).
By my count, all time, my win/loss record is 5 and 23. She posts an average of over 14.3 posts a month, whereas I average 7.4 . Yes, her average margin of victory is almost as big as my average total score. She doesn't even have a smart phone to help her out. Gosh! She doesn't even have high-speed-internet service at her home (yes, I am getting dominated by someone working at dial-up speed).
So, as you can tell, I am a pathetic loser. I thought maybe I'd try to give her a run-for-her-money this month. In fact, I did. I had her "worried", but it is painfully obvious that if she puts forth any kind of effort, I just cannot keep up. I'm going to lose this month, too. I just give up.

Tweeting on Twitter
I have to admit that I don't "get" Twitter.
I have a twitter account. Sometimes I tweet. Sometimes I look and see what other people are tweeting. Sometimes some of the tweets even seem to be somewhat interesting to me. But, it just seems to be too much work to get what you want. It seems to me to just be a subset of Facebook . I mean, correct me if I'm wrong, but Twitter is basically just the update status part of Facebook.
Anyway, I know lots of people use it. Active tweeters seem to just love it. A lot of the Beer Bloggers that I read tweet a bunch. If you have a bunch of followers, I guess it is a good way to let people know that you've posted a new blog entry. Unfortunately, I don't have very many followers, so it doesn't really give me much value. Or at least, I cannot figure out how to extract value from it.
So, let me know if you have some insight on what I am missing about Twitter (leave a comment or two). If it can be a useful informational tool, I do want to figure it out. You might have noticed I added some twitter widgets to the blog, and some on the Sheppy Brew website.
And, if you have a twitter account, go ahead and follow me on twitter:

Actually, I will share that Twitter pointed me to a new beer blog that looks really cool: http://billybrew.com/ . Maybe I am starting to "get it".

Arizona
The company I am working for is flying us to a resort / spa for the weekend. This is the company holiday party. We will be back before I publish this, so don't get any ideas about breaking in and stealing our stuff. Our neighbors have permission to shoot their very big guns at any intruders. We do not have anything worth stealing anyway.
I have never been to a spa. Quite frankly, being "pampered" does not seem like something I'd enjoy. But as I have to tell my kids over and over (and over), you do not know if you like it until you try it. And if I have to try it I might as well do it on someone else's dime (hundreds of dollars actually). I am scheduled for a 50 minute massage on Saturday at 1. Honestly, laying there for an hour seems to me as excruciatingly boring. I hope I am wrong. Is it ok to bring a book or my MP3 player ... Or is that bad etiquette?
----
Ok ... Currently I am on united airlines 329 with non stop service to Phoenix International Airport. Does it bug anyone else that MP3 players are potentially dangerous during takeoff? If the electronic systems on airplanes are in danger of being disrupted be my tiny little music player, I don't think we should be allowed to fly. Just my humble opinion.
In case you are wondering, I am listening to Pretty Persuasion by REM. Don't tell anyone but I started listening before they told us it was ok. Thank God we didn't crash! Now I'm listening to Talking Heads. If it is ok with y'all, I am not going to mention any more songs.
Airplane seats are not made for people my height. I am tall, but not unreasonably so. Just a public service announcement for you short people (under 6 feet): average sized people like me have their knees RIGHT UP against the back of your seat. If you lean your seat back, you are going to smash the hell out of the knees of anyone behind you who is not short like you. Please show some kindness. I realize your life sucks way down there, but please don't take it out on the knees of average sized people like me.
Now I am listening to Alligator Pie by Matthews, Dave Band. I know I said that I would not do that anymore. I lied. "Daddy when you gonna put me in a song?"
It is a little weird flying without kids. I didn't have to remind anyone at the airport to go potty. Just to feel comfortable, I asked the COO if he needed to go, but it just was not the same. Here on the flight I do not have to manage DVD entertainment and watch 3 drinks. I don't even have to keep track of flight time to send the kids to the potty right before the pilot turns on the seat belt lights for landing. I might ask the guy next to me if he needs to go at the 1:15 mark of the flight, again, I don't want to feel too weird here.
"I used to rule the world. Seas would rise when I gave the word." Sorry I could not help myself.
I do not know the last time I had a Heineken before tonight. It will be awhile before I have another. It would be nice if airlines had a better beer selection. Considering that interference from a tiny little MP3 player might endanger the flight, I suppose beer selection is a minor concern.
"Hear Jerusalem bells are ringing. Roman cavalry choirs are singing. Be my mirror my soul and shield. Missionaries in a foreign field. For some reason I can't explain, I know St. Peter will call my name. Never an honest word, but that was when I ruled the world."
Sorry, I like that song. I really do.
Crap! The seat belt light is on for final decent. I missed my opportunity to tell that guy to go potty. If he wets himself, I am going to blame myself.
Ok ... I had to shut down my phone (and don't forget the MP3 player). Sorry for the delay. Did you miss me? Ok I don't have anything else to say right now. Later.
Hey Tera ... Do you see how I am not breaking this up into another post?
....
So today (Saturday) we went on a hike. Tracy and I had to head back early (before we reached the summit) so that we would have time to clean up a bit before our spa experience.
I guess I did not hate the massage, but I did not love it either. It was very hard for me to feel comfortable mentally from the time I entered the spa until I left. I felt sort of like these freaks were trying to recruit me to their little cult. It was just very strange. I am very glad I tried it and might even give it another try if I get a free opportunity, but it is not something I would pay money for or recommend to someone. It honestly was not relaxing for me.
Tracy enjoyed it much more than I did. I guess that is to be expected. She's a girl.
The company took a bus out to Rock Bottom Brewery for dinner. It was great. The "brew master's select" was a black IPA. That was their best beer. They were all really good, though.
After that we hung out at the resort bar for quite awhile. Some (including the CEO) got pretty crazy. Good times.
...
And now it is Sunday morning.
We are just hanging out in the Arizona sun until we have to leave for the airport around 2.
...
And now it is Sunday afternoon and we are waiting for our flight home. Tracy and I are not sitting together on the flight home. Oh well, we'll be ok. It has been a great weekend. I am very grateful that the company was generous enough to fly us out and put us up in such a nice place. They will almost certainly be too big next year to do the same thing, so it was to take this opportunity now. Gonna be tired tomorrow, I am sure.
Ok, well, I am sick of this post. I'll send it now and "publish" it tomorrow.

Echo Lake
Last weekend we headed up to Echo lake to play in the snow and on the ice. Here are some pictures:
And a video. This is me laying down, taking a video of the peaceful blue sky and the clouds moving silently across the sky. At the end, I am attacked by a couple of wild animals. As always, if you are reading this on facebook, you'll need to go to the actual blog (http://blog.ericshepard.com) to see the video.
Over the years, we really have a lot of these shots. The main difference is that the boys just keep getting bigger. |

Shipping Bluefield Ale
![]() |
Not sure why I took this picture. See the sexy beer model in the background, though. Very hot. |
We are going to be in the same place at the same time in a few weeks. I don't want to pack beer in my luggage (various reasons including my lack of trust for baggage handlers). So, I thought I would mail the chocolate ale. I've never shipped beer before, but home-brewers do all the time. It is illegal to ship beer via the US Postal Service. It is against policy for UPS or Fed Ex to knowingly accept beer, but the advice I got from the AHA forum seems to be that a "don't ask / don't tell" approach with UPS works just fine. This seems to be standard procedure for lots of other home-brewering bloggers as well. The best resource I found was at BarlowBrewing: "How to Pack and Ship Beer".
So ...
First I put each bottle in a zip-lock bag.

I have to admit that I'm a little nervous about shipping my beer. I think I've packed everything pretty well. I just don't know how it will turn out. I guess we'll see. If it turns out well, I'll probably let you know. If not, I'll probably just stay silent on the subject.
Thanksmas Photos
We went to Nevada for Thanksgiving this year to visit Grammy and Papa Lou. Since we won't see them for Christmas, we exchanged Christmas gifts. So, it became known as the Thanksmas visit.
Tyler really got into playing the keyboard. And he was REALLY good at it. |

Frambozen
I had a New Belgium Frambozen Raspberry Brown Ale tonight.
Not sure why I purchased this beer. I probably got in the Thanksgiving spirit and just couldn't pass it up at the liquor store.
It is fruity (has lots of raspberry flavor in it ... just in case you could not tell from the name). If you like raspberry beers, you'll probably like this one. It is ok, and I'll drink the whole 6 pack, but I probably won't buy it again.
It does have an amazing ruby red color that I would love to recreate in one of my beers. I bet the color has something to do with the fruit, so I probably won't be able to recreate it. Bummer.
Tonight, "Brew Masters" is on the Discovery Channel. I wonder what Sam has in store for us tonight. Can't wait.

Sheppy Brew Web Stats
In my last post (Blog Stats), I mentioned that I discovered interesting stats available for my blog. GoDaddy, my hosting company for SheppyBrew.com, also offers stats. So, being the geek that I am I went and looked at those as well.
I am actually hosting a few other sites in the same directory structure, so some of the stats are mixed in with other sites, but Sheppy Brew is by far the most active, so most it dominates most of the stats.
Here are the top 11 pages requested at the Sheppy Brew web site (listed most to least):
And, actually, the list above only includes public facing pages. I just left off the login page and some of my content management pages, which actually rank pretty high. This also points out that most of the traffic to sheppybrew.com comes from the Brew Master (me).
It is clear, though, that others do go to the site. It is hard to say who these people are, but I can tell you some things about my web audience.
The top 3 referring sites are (certainly not surprising):
Then, we get into some a site which I am unfamiliar with (and come up as broken links when I try to go to it)
My hosting company (GoDaddy) does not break out the IP address by country, which is a bummer. I bet I could find references to get that information, but am not going to go through the effort at the moment.
As I mentioned, there are other sites hosted here. But none of these are even close to as popular as the Sheppy Brew website. I started hosting beer.ericshepard.com at my hosting account with GoDaddy in 2010, and the yearly report shows activity in 2010 up over 2009 to a factor of 62 (over 6200%). Specifically, the Sheppy Brew website started with GoDaddy in March of 2010. Between February and March of 2010, the increase of activity was over 6900%.
Obviously, the Most active year: 2010.
Most active quarter: Q2 2010
Most active month: March 2010
Most active week beginning: March 7 2010
Most active day: March 4, 2010
Most active hour: Feb 23, 2006 07:00 - 07:59 (Interesting since this was before Sheppy Brew existed and certainly well before it started being hosted here.)
Days of the week are pretty evenly distributed, but Thursday has a 10% lead over 2nd place Friday and a 33% lead over last place Sunday.
The most active hour of the day is 2 - 2:59 AM. It is closely followed by 12 - 12:59 AM and then 9 - 9:59 PM and then 11 - 11:59 PM. "After hours (5pm - 7:59AM)" are about twice as active as "Work Hours (8AM - 4:59PM)"
The Mozilla browser is about 3 times more popular in accessing my sites than 2nd place MS Internet Explorer.
Windows Operating Systems clearly dominate when it comes to what was used to access my web sites.
Ok, well, I'm quite certain that very few of my blog readers care at all about this. I did find it interesting to go through and see all this information, but it certainly is not that useful to me. Yep, I'm a geek.

Ok, well, I'm quite certain that very few of my blog readers care at all about this. I did find it interesting to go through and see all this information, but it certainly is not that useful to me. Yep, I'm a geek.

Connor the Poet
For your viewing pleasure, here are some videos of my very amusing youngest child.
This first video is Connor before our trip to Nevada to visit Grammy and Papa Lou.
I'm not sure what to call these next few videos. Some sort of performance art? Some sort of poetry? I just don't know. This is "The Thanksgiving One":
This is "The Christmas One":
This is the "Star on top of the Tree":
It cracks Connor up to watch these. It cracks me up to see Connor crack up (more so than do the videos themselves).
Of course, if you are reading this on facebook, you'll have to go to the actual blog entry "Connor the Poet" to see the videos.

Blog Stats
Today, I noticed a new tab in the BlogSpot Dashboard. Well, to be honest, I don't know how new it is. I've never noticed it before, but it certainly may have been there for quite awhile without me noticing it. The "new" tab is called Stats and lists different statistics on people accessing my blog.
There are some interesting (and in some cases surprising) facts that the stats show me.
For example, in the past month (Nov 7 - Dec 6), my top 10 viewed blog entries (listed most hits to least) are:
The other interesting thing I found is the countries that are accessing the blog over the past month. Top 10 in order of most to least:
Anyway, there is other interesting stuff in there. I'm sure no one really cares except me, but I thought I'd share this anyway.
Oh ... and by the way ... I just added "Ad Sense" to my blog. The fact that so many people are actually hitting my blog makes me think I might as well see what will happen. The ad is now between "previous posts" and "blogs I read" on the right hand side of the blog. Go ahead and click on one or two if you don't mind. Thanks. (those who read this as a facebook note will not have any idea what that means. Go to http://blog.ericshepard.com and you will.

SheppyBrew.com
GoDaddy has been sending me warnings that most of my domains were "about" to expire. GoDaddy starts sending out the notifications ridiculously far in advance (90 days?) and I finally got sick of all the emails and renewed my domains. At the same time, I registered sheppybrew.com. You might call it an impulse buy, although it is something I've been thinking about for several months.
So, now if you want to read up on Sheppy Brew's beers, not only can you go to http://beer.ericshepard.com, but now you can go to http://www.sheppybrew.com. Personally, I'll be getting there through the new sheppybrew.com domain name. Google has not indexed sheppybrew.com, yet, so my search page still hits beer.ericshepard.com. I'm sure I'll be able to update that soon.
I set up forwarding to the "brewing" labeled entries of this blog at http://blog.sheppybrew.com, so if you want to read about beer on my blog, but not all the other boring minutia of my life, you can bookmark that url (right ... like anyone would want to come back here more than once).
Thank you to the Beer Snob Chick who just recently gave me a suggestion on where to buy New Belgium's 2010 La Folie. You may remember (but most likely you don't) that La Folie was one of the great sour beers that I tried this year at GABF (that stands for Great American Beer Festival for my step-cousin-in-law). As of the time I am writing this, I have not headed up to 14th and Krameria, yet. I hope they still have some when I arrive.
This weekend, the Beer Model and I shared a Bluefield Chocolate Ale. Part of me was dreading the experience, but it did not suck at all. In fact, I think it makes a very nice dessert beer. It will make an awesome beer float at some point. It is very chocolaty and has a very nice hazelnut flavor to it as well. Even Tyler said it smelled like cocoa, so I guess the aroma doesn't have any of that disgusting beer smell (disgusting for my kids and sister ... or at least my I hope my sister doesn't think it smells or tastes disgusting). Since I like it and the beer model likes it, chances are my sister will not like it, but hey, we can't please everyone, now can we? Now, I just have to figure out a good way to get some to either Wisconsin or Michigan, so Mrs. Bluefield can give it a try.
I had been planning on cracking open my second taste of Fox Sox Knox Rye Pale Ale sometime this weekend, but never got around to it. I had my first taste Thursday night. It is a wonderfully hoppy beer. The color is a beautiful gold that is not quite like any of my other beers. It is very similar in taste to Tommy Hawk APA, and I might have to do a side-by-side comparison to decide how close they actually are.
We played up in the mountains by Mt. Evans this Saturday, and stopped by Tommy Knocker brew pub for lunch. I got to use my AHA membership card to get the pub discount. This is the first place that I've pulled out the card and had the person actually know what I was talking about. The beer model and I each got a free pint (I think the deal there is a free pint with an entree ... which is a pretty good deal). Lunch was nice. My Hop Strike Black Rye IPA was excellent. Tracy liked her Jack Whacker Wheat Ale as well.
As always, if you are reading this on facebook, it really looks nicer on my blog: http://blog.ericshepard.com/2010/12/sheppybrewcom.html.

An Idle Thought
A real woman is a man's best friend. She will never stand him up and never let him down.
She will reassure him when he feels insecure and comfort him after a bad day.
She will inspire him to do things he never thought he could do; to live without fear and forget regret.
She will enable him to express his deepest emotions and give in to his most intimate desires.
She will make sure he always feels as though he's the most handsome man in the room and
will enable him to be the most confident, sexy, seductive and invincible guy around.
No wait... sorry.... I'm thinking of beer.
It's beer that does all that.......
Never mind.

Beer Bloggers
So, I've become aware of Beer Bloggers lately. It never really occurred to me that there was such a creature before. If you look over at my "Blogs I Read" section on the right of this page, you'll see quite a few home brew related blogs that I have been following for some time ( The Screwy Brewer, BeerSmith HB Blog, BN Army Blog, Bearded Brewing Blog, Blog entries from Chris Colby, Homebrewers Association). So, I read beer-related blogs quite a bit. I just did not know there were people out there who officially call themselves "Beer Bloggers".
I guess technically, you could call me a "Beer Blogger" because I blog quite a bit about beer. I don't really consider myself a "Beer Blogger", though. Maybe I should. If you count mentioning SheppyBrew (and why wouldn't you?), I probably write more entries that mention beer on my blog more than do most of the "official" beer bloggers I've come across. But then, this isn't really a beer blog. It is a blog about Sheppy, who just happens to brew (and drink) beer.
Somewhat recently, I discovered "The Beer Wench" on a video that The Brewing Network took from the GABF. She was on a panel talking about social media and how it is helping to promote craft beer today. The name "Beer Wench" intrigued me, so I headed over to her website: http://drinkwiththewench.com/. You may have noticed I've mentioned articles on the Wench's site a couple times recently. (BTW ... I'm going to keep mentioning The Beer Wench because every time I do, she comes by and leaves a comment ... it's like my readership on this blog doubles every time I mention The Wench).
Because of The Wench, I discovered that there was an official Beer Bloggers Conference that took place in Boulder this year. The Wench has also been doing a series of articles profiling real live beer bloggers. Because of her, I have come across some interestingly named blogs such as "BeerSnobchick" and "Brewgasm" . I've also added some Colorado Beer Bloggers to the right side of my blog: Starting a Brewery and Jenn and Beer. I've also looked at many other Beer Blogs that have either been featured on Drink with the Wench or linked from http://beerbloggersconference.org. I think I've come across even more on my own since discovering the existence of "Beer Bloggers".
Long story short, there are a ton of people blogging about beer. Tons and tons.
Of course, as a home brewer and beer geek, I think this is great. Beer interests me. Reading about beer is fun. Writing about beer is fun. Everyone should blog about beer from time to time.
One reason that I don't consider myself a beer blogger is that I am bad at describing flavors and aromas. I'm probably getting better, but a lot of my descriptions come about because I can detect a specific ingredient that I have used in my own beer. For instance, I know exactly what Munich malt tastes like in my beer, and if I taste a beer where I detect Munich malt, that is part of my description. "This beer has a nice rich Munich malt flavor." But, other than if I am talking to brewers ... is that a good description? Maybe, but probably not. Or, (and I do this a lot), when I detect a Belgium yeast, I will say it has a Belgium yeast flavor. Or sometimes I'll just say it tastes "too Belgium" or has just the right "amount of Belgium character". Most beer geeks, at least, know what I mean, but when someone asks what I mean by "Belgium", I really struggle to come up with something more descriptive.
Another reason I cannot call myself a "Beer Blogger" is that only my sister reads my blog, and she doesn't even drink beer. Well, the Beer Wench will read this entry too, since I linked to her site above, but you can hardly count her as a regular reader. Actually, I did notice today that I am up to 13 (yes, count them ... 13) followers. Last time I noticed, I had 10. I don't know which 3 are new. One of the new ones is Ms. Hunter, and she is probably only following me because I starting following her. She, also, does not drink beer. Oh ... and I have quite a few Facebook friends who follow the blog through Facebook notes. Some of those people are actually beer drinkers. If you are one of these people, you really should read from http://blog.ericshepard.com to get the full effect. Good gosh, maybe this blog is more popular than I thought!
By the way, Sheppy Brew recently bottled up the highly experimental batch of Bluefield Chocolate Ale . It is very chocolaty and not very "beer like", which was pretty much the point. I am looking forward to giving it a try in a couple of weeks. I do not know how much I'll like drinking it, but I do think if nothing else, it will make good Beer Floats. If I hate it and have to get rid of it, I bet I can find enough people who are at least willing to try a bottle so none of it will go to waste.
Sheppy Brew is also finally moving to 5 gallon batches. My first purchase was a nice big 8 gallon brew - pot. This past weekend, I brewed up a double all-grain batch of Buckwheat's Belgium Pale Ale. I split it into two of my small fermenters. Just for the fun of it, I used the regular safbrew S-33 yeast for one and T-58 in the other. T-58 should give a more "Belgium" flavor. The brewing day went very smoothly with the larger boil. My mash efficiency does seem to be much higher with the bigger mash, so both these beers will be higher in alcohol than I intended, but that is certainly ok.
This was going to be my 101st blog entry of 2010. I have reached this number only because there were some months I tried to "keep up" with the number of posts in my sister's blog. I was only successful a couple of months and at least one of those was because she "let me win" (not that it is a competition). I've decided to go back and remove some. There is just something about that over-100 post level I don't like, and I still have a month and a half left in the year. I've already removed a couple so that this will look like the 99th post. Sort of weird of me, right?

X-Mas Ales
Tonight, I popped open one of my 2009 X-Mas Ales and one of my 2010 X-Mas Ales. Both were delicious. The 2009 is the oldest of my homebrews that I have ever tried. It was bottled 8/30/2009, and it aged very well. It is malty with a nice clove aroma and flavor. I think I even detected a hint of cherry in it. I only have 2 left, and am wondering if I can let those sit until next year.
The 2010 is just a touch drier and seems to carry a bit more bitterness. The apple pie spice taste is very festive. I like it. I do not taste the cherry as much, but I recall that being the case last year as well, so maybe that will come through more with age. I will have to save some of these for next year to see.
Merry Christmas to me.
