2012 Q2 SheppyBrew Stats

2012 continues to fly by and wouldn't you know it, but the 2nd quarter of the calendar year is over. Here at the SheppyBrew home-brewery this means that it is time again for me to share some more of my brewing stats (see SheppyBrew 2009 Stats, 1st Quarter Stats, 2nd Quarter Stats, 3rd Quarter Stats, SheppyBrew 2010 Stats, 1st Quarter Brewing Stats, 2nd Quarter Brew Stats, SheppyBrew Stats Q3 2011, 2011 SheppyBrew Stats, 2012 Q1 SheppyBrew Stats).

I've written this before, but (believe it or not), I have had people say they like to read these brewing stats posts.

So here we go:

I brewed 5 batches of beer (TommyHawk APA, Laser Salt, Wetta Berry, Cheap Bastard, Summer Lovin'). This makes my 2012 total at 12 so far.

3 of the 5 batches were brand new recipes, which means I have already brewed 9 new beers in 2012. Last year, I did 10 new recipes all year.

I brewed a little over 26 gallons, so I am still on pace to go beyond the 100 gallon mark. I got to 98 last year.

I have not done any lagers yet in 2012. I did 3 in 2011.

I actually did a double Mr. Beer batch (Wetta Berry). I did 2 Mr. Beer batches in 2011. I am now out of Mr. Beer ingredients, but I have a couple gift cards I have to use up somehow. I might be getting some more Mr. Beer HME's or UME's, but I might concentrate on other things that Mr. Beer sells with those gift cards.

I did one extract beer (obviously, also the Wetta Berry). I have now done two extract batches in 2012. I don't anticipate doing any more, but I guess we will see.

I've done no partial mashes so far in this quarter or for the year. I did 2 partial mashes in 2011.

So, by simple process of elimination (and simple math 5-1 = 4), you can probably figure out that 4 of my 5  batches were all-grain. This puts me at 10 for 2012. I did 18 all-grain batches in 2011.

I've kegged all of the batches. This makes 8 batches kegged in 2012. This already equals my total of 2011.

I mentioned in 2011 SheppyBrew Stats, was that I anticipated making more new beers this year. Since I am already at 9 half-way through the year and only had 10 all last year, I am almost certain to get that done.

I continue to share more beer this year than ever before. My whole keg of Laser Salt was consumed by a group of campers at the Great Sand Dunes National Park. I told "Gretchen" that I would brew that again and give her some of that. I anticipate getting rid of lots of Wetta Berry.

I still have not done a sour beer yet. I have the recipe (see Rationalité Poison d'Ereeeek) and have blogged about the process (see SheppyBrew and the Sour Mash). I have been unable to get the sour beer into the schedule, though. I think it will happen this quarter, but to be honest, I thought I would get it done months ago. Oh well. Don't worry. It will happen sometime.

SheppyBrew continues to produce Gluten Free / Reduced beers using "Gretchen" as a guinea pig. She doesn't seem to mind and in fact requested another batch of Laser Salt Sandy Blonde Ale. She refereed to it as "that gluten eater", which is a pretty good name too. As always, you can follow my quest against glutens by checking out the "Gluten Free" label on this blog.

That is all I can think of at the moment to share. I'm sure it won't be long before I blog some more about SheppyBrew. Stay Tuned.

In the meantime ... follow the "brewery" on facebook: https://www.facebook.com/SheppyBrew !
