I did it. I cycled over 1000 miles over the month of September for the Great Cycle Challenge, and thanks to several generous donors, I raised over $3100 to help fight Childhood Cancer.
It certainly wasn't easy, but I knew I could ride over 1000 miles in 30 days because I did it last year.
As it turns out, a broken spoke made me resort to some miles on the stationary bike. I was pleasantly surprised, though that a local bike shop was able to get that fixed quick enough that I only missed one complete day on my "real" bike.
I ended up with 1025 miles. Only 76 of those on a stationary bike. 949 miles cycled outside in September isn't too bad. Not bad at all.
In addition to the miles, I climbed 46961 feet in elevation over the month.
I was on a bike 28 of the 30 days. On those 28 days, I averaged almost 37 miles a day. My minimum day was 13 miles. My maximum was 101 miles. The medium was 34 miles.
Since stationary bikes (at least the ones at my health club) don't track elevation gain, I climbed 27 of the 30 in the month. Over those 27 days, I averaged climbing 1739 feet. My minimum was 364 feet. My maximum was 4436. The medium was 1630 feet gained.
The whole work at home thing made it a little easier to find time to ride.
So far for the year, I've ridden around 5595 miles. Since my goal for the year was 5000, I'm fairly proud of that number.
I'm not done. I expect I'll be at 6000 miles by the end of October. I wouldn't be surprised if I end up over 6500 miles for 2020.
